Job Summary:

To assist Dialysis RNs with the delivery of patient care including machine setup, testing, disinfection, and documentation; assist with patient treatments, including initiating, monitoring, documenting, and discontinuing treatments under the supervision of a licensed nurse; assist with transferring patients and machines throughout the hospital.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Equipment set up, testing and disinfection (ex. string, prime and clean machines, test PH and conductivity, acid/heat and chemical disinfect based on need, document all disinfection processes, flush ROs, disinfect reusable supplies, maintain infection control practices and environmental standards in accordance with established department and hospital policies and procedures
  • Patient care (ex: evaluates vascular access, cannulates and initiates treatments under the supervision of the RN, sets machine to correct flows per physician orders, records and monitors vitals, collects labs, elevates abnormal values to RN, discontinues treatments and termination of venous access until hemostasis is achieved, assist RNs with other patient care needs such as ADLs)
  • Room turnover/ disinfection (ex. cleaning stretchers/beds/chairs/cords/equipment, stocking carts, set up clean equipment for next patient, stocking new linens and supplies)
  • Transporting (ex. transporting patients to and from dialysis, assist outpatients, help RNs take machines and equipment to the bedside for treatments)


TECHNICAL CAPABILITIES

  • Clinical Patient Documentation (Novice): Possesses sufficient fundamental proficiency to successfully demonstrate patient documentation in practical applications of moderate difficulty. Generally works under the direction of others while accomplishing assignments. Contributes to the nursing assessment by collecting, reporting, and recording objective and subjective data in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Clinical Competencies (Novice): Demonstrates sufficient fundamental proficiency to assist and perform clinical care including but not limited to vital signs, phlebotomy, specimen collection, medication administration and point of care testing as directed by unit standards.
  • Environment of Care (Novice): Demonstrates sufficient fundamental proficiency with set up and maintenance of patient exam room, supplies and equipment.
  • Clinical Knowledge (Intermediate): Knowledge of patient care including patient assessment and treatment, care planning, patient education and evidence based practice. Understanding of medical terminology and documentation.
