About the Role:
ENTRUST Solutions Group is seeking an entry-level Electric Distribution Design Technician to join our dynamic team. This position combines fieldwork and office-based design responsibilities, with approximately 50% of the time spent in the field and 50% supporting design activities. Candidates should be comfortable working outdoors and in potentially challenging terrain, including mountainous areas. The role is primarily focused on fielding activities, with travel required when permits are issued. Work will be local to the Charlotte area or Jackson County, with current project needs including permit work in Asheville. Workloads may fluctuate depending on permit volume, and during heavier permit periods, travel and mileage may increase, potentially requiring longer field days.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform field visits to inspect utility infrastructure, collect accurate field data, and support the design of overhead and underground medium-voltage electric utility projects.
  • Prepare construction work packages, including construction prints and bills of materials (BOMs), while following client requirements, NESC standards, and regulatory processes.
  • Utilize computer systems, Microsoft Word, and utility design software such as Katapult to support overhead utility work, joint-use applications, and identify attachments on utility poles.
  • Assess project requirements, including permitting needs, environmental considerations, and Right-of-Way (ROW) documentation.
  • Perform spatial analysis using GIS platforms to evaluate facility locations, constructability concerns, and potential environmental impacts.
  • Support engineering calculations, including pole loading analysis, voltage drop, and other utility design considerations.
  • Provide engineering support during pre-construction activities, including coordination with line crews and occasional site meetings.
  • Meet production expectations, including fielding approximately 40 poles per day.

Required Qualifications:

  • Entry-level experience (0–1 years) in electrical distribution design, utility fielding, or a related technical field.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required for fielding responsibilities.
  • Comfortable using computers and Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Proficient with computer systems and technology

What We Offer:

  • A supportive and inclusive work environment that values diversity and encourages innovation.
  • Opportunities for professional growth and career development.
  • Competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package, including generous paid time off, retirement program with a company match, tuition reimbursement, and flexible work schedules.
  • Benefits offered include company-sponsored medical, dental, vision, and 401(k) plan with company match. Also offered are tuition reimbursement, voluntary life, disability, critical illness, accident and hospitalization plans. HSA or FSA medical accounts and FSA dependent care and transportation/parking accounts are also available. These benefits are subject to employee contribution amounts generally set annually.
