In this role as a design professional, you will be responsible for the production of innovative, appropriate, cost-effective designs, drawings, and specifications in their discipline for assigned projects. You will emerge as an independent resource and begin to coordinate work with other disciplines. You will work to fulfill experience requirements for eligibility to take the professional license exam.
Job Responsibilities:
- Application of Knowledge of Structural Engineering Applications
- Participates in project strategy meetings within discipline, develops design concepts, and produces pricing and proposal presentation documents

- Performs analyses or calculations as assigned
- Assist in the development of reports under the direction of a Licensed Professional
- Coordinates and checks work carefully to minimize all deficiencies, errors, and omissions
- Ability to read and understand local/state/federal highway design manuals, special provisions, specifications, and standards
- Maintains orderly work files and prepares clear well-written memos/ correspondence. When assigned, prepares presentation materials

- Produces well-organized, finished design documents of good appearance, accuracy, clarity, and correctness from layouts, sketches, or written instructions. Applies discipline design and detailing fundamentals in developing designs and specifications under the supervision of and subject to final approval by the Licensed Professional
- Assist in the development of construction plans, right-of-way plans, cost estimates, bid documents, and quantity takeoffs under the direction of a Licensed Professional
- Assists Licensed Professional with production/assembly/plotting of drawing packages and writing specifications
- Subject to final approval of Licensed Professional, checks final drawings and submittal data for conformance with contract documents

- Assist in project site visits by taking notes, photographs, and sketches
- Subject to final approval of Licensed Professional, check shop drawings and submittal data for conformance with contract documents
- Assist Licensed Professional in construction observation to monitor compliance with design intent, construction drawings, and observations. Prepares field reports

- Partners with technical efforts of discipline Interns, designers, and technicians assigned to the project

- Creates work plans for assigned tasks. Plan, execute, and monitor assignments, communicating status with supervisor to establish priorities

Education/Experience:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in civil engineering or other degree related to the structural engineering profession
- Enrolled in or desire to pursue Master's degree focused in structural engineering would reflect positively on application
- Experience of 0 to 2 years and the ability to sit for the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam (EI) within 6 months of hire required; exam certification preferred
- Primarily focused on upcoming graduates (Fall 2026 / Spring 2027)
To thrive in this role, you'll need:
- Limited understanding of the following structural software is desired, however motivation to learn software upon hiring is acceptable: Microsoft Office, MathCAD, MicroStation, Open Bridge Designer, Enercalc, modeling software such as SAP2000 or STAAD, MDX, LUSAS, LEAP Bridge, LEAP Conspan, and L-Pile.

Environmental Factors and/or Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, this position is required to have ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations; and the ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of 10-50 pounds. Requires good hand-eye coordination, and arm, hand and finger dexterity, including the ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard, operate equipment and read application/form information.
