Part-time

Re-posted 12 days ago

Job description

The School of Professional Studies is seeking adjunct instructors to deliver in-person workforce training for MassBio's Bioversity program. This 8-week, noncredit program prepares adult learners for entry-level roles in biotechnology lab operations.
This role is designed for professionals with hands-on experience in laboratory operations, facilities, or support functions within biotech, pharma, or research environments. The instructor will translate real-world lab workflows into practical, job-ready training that prepares learners to succeed in roles such as lab technician, lab operations associate, or facilities support.
Students are non-traditional adult learners preparing to enter the biotech workforce. Instruction should emphasize applied skills, workplace readiness, and operational understanding over theoretical science.
  • Teach on-site in Dorchester an estimated two days a week for 3-hour blocks between the hours of 9:30 am - 3:30 pm.
  • Deliver engaging, hands-on training sessions focused on day-to-day lab operations, including:
    • Lab safety and PPE in real-world environments
    • Equipment use and maintenance (freezers, CO₂ incubators, LN₂ systems, etc.)
    • Sample handling and storage workflows
    • Receiving, inventory management, and material tracking
    • SOP execution and documentation practices
  • Translate complex lab environments into clear, accessible concepts for entry-level learners
  • Emphasize how work gets done in a lab setting (workflow, communication, accountability)
  • Facilitate practical exercises and simulations aligned to real lab scenarios, such as:
    • Equipment handling and troubleshooting
    • Inventory and materials management
    • Following and writing SOPs
    • Identifying and correcting operational errors
  • Develop and administer effective assessments in a variety of formats on the key learning concepts
  • Provide feedback to students regarding the subject matter and the professional skills needed to be hired and perform well in the workplace
  • Ensure the course meets the high-quality standards of other MCPHS online and on-campus courses
  • Identify tactics to improve the course based on feedback from its initial delivery

Required
  • Bachelor's degree required. Advanced degree in subject area or related field preferred.
  • Hands-on experience in laboratory operations, lab support, facilities, or biotech/pharma environment
  • Experience working with common lab equipment (e.g., freezers, incubators, LN₂, gas systems)
  • Previous experience teaching and/or developing in-person training
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Commitment to supporting adult learners entering the workforce

Desired
  • Experience teaching subject matter for students entering health professions
  • Experience with a learning management system, such as Blackboard
  • Experience with video-conferencing platforms, such as Zoom
