Job description
The Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering (http://cbe.nd.edu) at the University of Notre Dame invites applications for tenure-track assistant professor positions from individuals with research interests at the broad intersection of biology and chemical engineering. Exceptional established candidates may also be considered for appointment at the Associate Professor or Professor rank. The successful candidate will develop and lead an innovative research program that addresses forefront challenges in biomolecular, biochemical, biotechnology, or bioprocess engineering, including but not limited to synthetic biology, biosensing, systems biology, metabolic engineering, and microbial engineering.
Position duties include research, teaching, and service. The position is expected to begin in July 2027. Applications will be reviewed beginning on October 21, 2026.
The environment for biomolecular engineering at Notre Dame is enriched by numerous cross-disciplinary institutes and centers, including:
- Bioengineering and Life Sciences Initiative (BELS Initiative)
- Berthiaume Institute for Precision Health (BIPH)
- Harper Cancer Research Institute (HRCI)
- Boler-Parseghian Center for Rare and Neglected Diseases (CRND)

Qualifications
Candidates at the entry level must have completed all requirements for a Ph.D. degree or have completed all but dissertation in Chemical Engineering or a closely related field with degree expected before July 1, 2027. Candidates at the advanced level must have a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering or a closely related field.
