Here's a Glimpse of the Job

Texas A&M University's Department of Biology is seeking an Instrumentation Coordinator to support the operation, maintenance, and reliability of research and teaching laboratory equipment. In this role, you will troubleshoot, repair, calibrate, and maintain a wide range of biological laboratory instrumentation, ensuring equipment remains safe, functional, and available for instructional and research activities. The Instrumentation Coordinator also provides technical expertise, coordinates equipment repairs, and delivers training and guidance to faculty, staff, and students as needed.

Opportunities to Contribute

  • Perform testing, troubleshooting, repair, calibration, installation, and preventive maintenance of a wide range of teaching and research laboratory instrumentation and systems, including electronic, mechanical, hydraulic, plumbing, environmental control, refrigeration, and scientific research equipment.

  • Serve as the departmental lead for autoclave operations by coordinating preventive maintenance and repairs, conducting sterile indicator testing and analysis, and resolving equipment performance issues.

  • Provide technical guidance and support to faculty and staff regarding the operation, maintenance, and repair of scientific instrumentation and laboratory equipment.

  • Supervise and train entry-level technicians in preventive maintenance procedures and best practices for scientific instrumentation and research equipment.

  • Manage inventory and procurement of parts, supplies, and equipment needed to support maintenance, repair, and laboratory operations.

  • Maintain accurate work orders, preventive maintenance schedules, equipment records, and technical reference materials to support efficient equipment management and repair activities.

  • Design and fabricate custom laboratory equipment and components to meet specialized teaching and research needs.

  • Perform miscellaneous facility and office maintenance tasks, including shelving installation, lock repair, picture hanging, and office equipment repair.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • One year of related experience.

  • Must be able to use and move the equipment required in essential duties.

  • Must be able to maneuver around equipment and through labs.

A well-qualified candidate for this position will also possess:

  • Two years in Bio-Medical electronics and instrumentation repair. High level comprehension of scientific fields.

  • Extremely adaptable to a wide variety of maintenance conditions.

  • Knowledge of computers and interfaces.

  • Skills with electromechanical equipment and hand tools.

  • Refrigeration repair experience/certification.

  • Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.

  • Experience with scientific instrumentation or equivalent field.

  • Good manual dexterity, good color vision and good hearing.

  • Ability to lift moderately heavy objects, ability to exert heavy force.

Salary: Compensation will be commensurate based on the selected candidate's education and experience.
