An entry-level backend developer is typically someone with little professional experience in server-side programming, often possessing foundational knowledge of programming languages like Python, Java, or Node.js, and understanding databases and APIs. Many companies consider candidates with internships, coding bootcamp experience, or relevant coursework suitable for entry-level roles. Job requirements vary, but basic programming skills and a willingness to learn are common prerequisites.

How do I get a developer job with no experience?

Entry level back end developer roles often require foundational programming skills in languages like Python, Java, or Node.js, along with knowledge of databases and APIs. Gaining experience through personal projects, internships, or contributing to open-source can improve your chances, and obtaining certifications in relevant technologies can also help demonstrate your skills to employers.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Entry Level Back End Developer position, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Entry Level Back End Developer, you need a solid understanding of programming languages such as Python, Java, or Node.js, as well as familiarity with databases and version control systems, typically supported by a relevant degree or coding bootcamp experience. Experience using frameworks like Django or Express.js, knowledge of RESTful APIs, and proficiency with Git are common technical requirements. Problem-solving abilities, teamwork, and clear communication help candidates stand out in fast-paced development environments. These skills are essential for building reliable server-side applications, supporting seamless collaboration, and ensuring the functionality and security of web services.

What engineer makes $500,000 a year?

While most entry-level back end developers earn significantly less, senior software engineers with extensive experience, specialized skills, and working at large tech companies can reach or exceed $500,000 annually through base salary, bonuses, and stock options. Such compensation typically requires years of experience, advanced technical expertise, and often leadership responsibilities.

What is an Entry Level Back End Developer job?

An Entry Level Back End Developer is responsible for building and maintaining the server-side logic of web applications. They work with databases, APIs, and server frameworks to ensure smooth data processing and functionality. Typically, they use languages like Python, Java, or Node.js, and collaborate with front-end developers to integrate user-facing elements. This role requires a fundamental understanding of programming, databases, and version control systems like Git. They often work under the guidance of senior developers to improve performance and security.

Is SQL enough for backend?

For an entry-level back end developer, SQL is a fundamental skill for managing databases, but it is usually not enough on its own. Back end development typically also requires knowledge of server-side programming languages like Python, Java, or Node.js, as well as understanding APIs, data structures, and version control systems. Combining SQL with these skills enables developers to build and maintain complete backend systems effectively.

What are some common challenges faced by entry level back end developers and how can I overcome them?

Entry level back end developers often encounter challenges such as understanding complex codebases, debugging issues in unfamiliar systems, and managing time across multiple tasks. To overcome these obstacles, it's helpful to ask questions early and often, use available documentation, and collaborate closely with more experienced team members. Staying organized, practicing consistent coding habits, and actively participating in code reviews will also accelerate your learning. Adapting to new technologies and frameworks is a normal part of the growth process in this role, and a willingness to continuously learn will help you succeed.

AI Engineer (Entry-Level) Agents & Experimentation

For more than 25 years, Asurion has led innovation in tech solutions while building a culture where employees feel valued and supported. We help people stay connected by providing expert advice, reliable repair services, and device protection across all their technology.

We are looking for an entry-level AI Engineer to join our internal AI lab and help build, test, and deploy AI-powered agents across business workflows. This role is ideal for someone who learns by doing, thrives in ambiguity, and is excited about experimenting with cutting-edge AI models and tools.

You will work closely with cross-functional teams to turn early ideas into working prototypes and explore where AI can create real operational impact.

What Youll Do

  • Build and deploy AI agents for internal tools and customer-facing use cases
  • Experiment with frontier and open-source models (e.g., Claude, GPT-based models, and emerging frameworks)
  • Rapidly prototype ideas, test performance, and iterate based on results
  • Integrate AI models with APIs, workflows, and business systems
  • Research and apply new AI tools, libraries, and agent frameworks as they emerge
  • Collaborate with teams to identify opportunities where AI can improve efficiency or automation

What Were Looking For

  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (completed or in progress)
  • Strong programming skills, preferably in Python
  • Experience working with APIs and basic backend integration
  • Demonstrated curiosity in AI/ML through personal projects, experiments, or coursework
  • High ownership mindset able to take vague problems and build solutions independently
  • Comfortable working in fast-changing environments with minimal structure
  • Strong problem-solving and experimentation mindset

Nice to Have

  • Experience building personal AI projects, bots, or automation tools
  • Familiarity with LLM APIs, prompt engineering, or agent frameworks
  • Exposure to cloud platforms or deployment tools
  • GitHub portfolio or live projects

Note: AI Projects Portfolio Request

Please prepare a portfolio showcasing the AI projects completed so far. The portfolio should include a brief description of each project, its purpose, key features, tools/technologies used, and the current status or outcomes. This will help provide a clear overview of the work completed to date.
