Job description

We are seeking a Safety Data Analyst / Safety Risk Analyst to support safety risk management, incident analysis, trend identification, and data-driven decision-making. The ideal candidate will have experience analyzing operational and incident data, developing statistical analyses, creating data visualizations, and producing detailed analytical reports for leadership and non-technical audiences.

This role will work closely with safety, investigation, risk management, and oversight teams to identify emerging hazards, evaluate mitigation effectiveness, and provide actionable insights to support organizational safety objectives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop high-quality, academically structured white-paper-style analytical reports examining key safety issues, emerging hazards, and operational trends.
  • Collect, clean, reconcile, and analyze data from multiple sources to identify safety trends and risk factors.
  • Prepare monthly analyses and reports tracking progress against annual safety Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
  • Evaluate the effectiveness and impact of safety mitigations and communicate findings to senior leadership.
  • Prepare data packages and analytical materials to support Safety Investigations and investigative teams.
  • Develop ad hoc reports supporting Safety Risk Management activities, including incident and hazard analysis.
  • Analyze incident, operational, and safety data to identify trends requiring additional investigation or corrective action.
  • Work with State Safety Oversight Agency teams to evaluate mitigation progress and impacts associated with Risk-Based Inspection programs.
  • Develop clear and accurate charts, dashboards, and visualizations to communicate analytical findings.
  • Conduct literature reviews and incorporate relevant research into formal analytical reports.
  • Present complex analytical findings and recommendations to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, datasets, analytical methodologies, and reporting materials.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support safety initiatives and evidence-based decision-making.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Data Analytics, Statistics, Mathematics, Safety, Engineering, Business, or a related field.
  • An Associate degree or High School Diploma/GED with equivalent relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a bachelor's degree.
  • At least 2 years of experience in data analytics, technical report writing, safety analysis, or a related field.
  • Strong experience with quantitative and statistical analysis.
  • Understanding of linear modeling, standard error, distributions, and variance.
  • Experience with data modeling concepts including joining, merging, summarizing, and sampling.
  • Excellent long-form technical and analytical writing skills.
  • Ability to translate complex analytical findings into clear reports for non-technical audiences.
  • Strong data visualization and presentation skills.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and multitasking abilities.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Root Cause Analysis (RCA).
  • Knowledge of causal factor identification and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA).
  • Familiarity with the Human Factors Analysis and Classification System (HFACS) framework.
  • Experience with SQL, R, and/or Python for data analysis and statistical modeling.
  • Experience working with safety, transportation, aviation, regulatory, inspection, or risk management data.
  • Experience supporting safety investigations or safety risk management programs.
