Job Title:
Senior Associate
Job Description/Responsibilities:
Blackstone Credit & Insurance's (BXCI) Infrastructure and Asset Based Credit (IABC) team is seeking a highly capable Associate or Senior Associate software engineer to help build and scale the technology stack that underpins the continued growth of its residential mortgage loan business. This is a hands-on engineering role embedded within the quant team, sitting at the intersection of software development, data, and credit investing. The successful candidate will partner closely with investment professionals, operations, data, and Blackstone's central technology teams to translate complex, evolving business processes into robust, scalable, and automated technical solutions.
Working directly with the business, the candidate will develop a deep understanding of the end-to-end residential mortgage loan lifecycle - from loan sourcing and acquisition through due diligence, financing, servicing oversight, and portfolio management - and will design and build the systems, data infrastructure, and applications that make these processes more efficient, transparent, and scalable. The role offers meaningful ownership and the opportunity to shape the technical foundation of one of the team's fastest-growing businesses.
The ideal candidate combines the rigor and craftsmanship of an experienced software engineer with the commercial awareness to operate effectively alongside an investment team in a fast-paced environment.
Specific responsibilities will include, among others:
  • Understanding and mapping out complex, cross-functional processes across the residential mortgage loan lifecycle, identifying opportunities to automate, streamline, and scale
  • Designing and implementing strategic technology solutions - including data pipelines, internal applications, APIs, and workflow automation - to support loan acquisition, financing, servicing oversight, and portfolio management
  • Coordinating projects across multiple teams and stakeholders - investment professionals, operations, data, and central technology - translating business requirements into technical specifications and driving delivery from concept through production
  • Building and maintaining the data infrastructure that powers reporting, analytics, and decision-making for the residential mortgage business
  • Partnering with Blackstone's central Technology and Data teams on system architecture, data access and integration, and alignment with firm-wide platforms and standards
  • Establishing engineering best practices - including code quality, testing, documentation, and version control - to ensure solutions are reliable, maintainable, and scalable as the business grows

Qualifications:
Blackstone seeks to hire individuals who are highly motivated, intelligent, have sound judgment and have demonstrated excellence in prior endeavors. In addition to strong engineering and problem-solving skills, the successful candidate should have:
  • Degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related technical/engineering field
  • At least 3 years of professional experience as a software developer/engineer, ideally building and shipping production systems in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong programming skills in a general-purpose language (i.e., Python, C++, C#, or Java), along with proficiency in SQL and relational databases
  • Hands-on experience designing and building data pipelines, APIs, and/or internal applications end-to-end
  • Familiarity with cloud infrastructure (e.g., AWS or Azure) and modern software engineering practices, including version control, CI/CD, and automated testing
  • Demonstrated understanding of and experience mapping complex business processes into well-designed technical solutions
  • Capable of coordinating across teams and stakeholders and to manage multiple projects to successful completion
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, and can work effectively alongside non-technical partners
  • Intellectual curiosity, strong work ethic, good professional judgment and a positive attitude
  • Effective in both independent and collaborative work environments
  • Strong skills in statistics, data science, and/or machine learning are a bonus
  • Prior experience in financial services, credit, structured finance, or mortgage / real estate finance a plus
