Position Summary:
The Machine Operator I is an entry-level position and is intended for individuals who have limited manufacturing experience. The Machine Operator I handles the basic deburring, buffing, sanding, and tumble operations and works independently and in a team environment. They also complete tasks within Finishing, Engraving, Cerakote, Black Oxide, and MagCell. Overall daily responsibilities can include minor assembly, working with small hand tools, sand blasters, and tumblers to finish mechanical parts. The Machine Operator also engraves serial numbers and other engravings on SIG SAUER firearms as required and/or requested by our customers using various laser cutting machines to meet defined output rates.
FLSA: Non-exempt
Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Use hard gauging to confirm proper characteristics as required.
  • Participate in assigned root cause analysis activities.
  • Bead and sand blast.
  • Run tumblers following established procedures.
  • Under supervision from leads, advanced operators, engineers, and supervisors use automated and manual equipment, chemicals to clean robots (acetone), strip coating (acetone/sand blast), run and mix the coating/painting booth, and dunking mag tubes in multiple chemical processes.
  • Use Standard Laser Engraver and Automated Laser Cells to engrave all non-serialized products.
  • Participate in Continuous Improvement activities as needed.
  • Completes tasks as assigned in a timely manner.
  • Participate in 5S workplace organizational activities and maintain the area in good working order through sustainment activities.
  • Regular on-site attendance/punctuality is a necessary function of this position.
  • May be required to work in other functional areas and/or facilities depending on business needs.
  • May be required to work overtime or alternate shifts based on business needs.
  • Miscellaneous duties as assigned.

Education/Experience & Skills:
  • High school diploma or equivalent, or related experience/training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must be able to read and understand work instructions in English.
  • This entry-level position and is generally intended for individuals who have limited to some level of manufacturing experience. Ability to perform at least 3 out of the 5 following tasks. Assembly (Mag Cell), Goff, tumble, bead blast and basic surface prep operations.
  • Basic math skills required.
  • Must be able to convey ideas and information clearly, concisely, and accurately to others in English, both verbally and in written form.
  • Ability to read and follow through on all required paperwork including, but not limited to routers, work instructions, and control plans.
  • Basic knowledge of gauging.
  • Basic knowledge and ability to deburr.

Working Conditions:
  • Regularly perform repetitive tasks.
  • Work is primarily standing (90 + % of the shift) except for lunch and break periods.
  • Shifts are 8 hours, 10 hours, and 12 hours.
  • The duties of this job normally require exposure to a typical manufacturing environment. Frequent standing, sitting, stooping/squatting, walking, and stair climbing can be expected along with frequent lifting and/or moving of tooling, parts containers, and materials up to 40 pounds.
  • Must be able to reach with hands and arms, bend and kneel frequently at a minimum of 50% of the shift, as well as undergo repetitive wrist, hand, elbow, shoulder, and ankle motions.
  • Must demonstrate proficient fine motor skills, ability to grip, reach, pull, turn, and use tools to torque fixtures in various machinery or in the assembly, machining, or testing of parts.
  • Specific vision abilities required may include close vision, distance vision, peripheral and depth perception, and the ability to focus on fine print.
  • Must wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) where required.
  • Must comply with all work exposure EH&S training requirements and adhere to SIG SAUER Inc. security mandates.
