Job description

The part-time interpreter will interpret English to ASL and interpret ASL to English for deaf students. This role will have a strong focus in performance-based courses and productions. This position's duties are normally performed in a typical interior/residence work environment, based on the activity scheduled. At times the positionwill require work in the theater space.

Position Duties

  • Interpret ASL to English and English to ASL for deaf students during classroom instruction.
  • Provide interpreting services for meetings with professors, faculty, and staff.
  • Interpret at college and university-sponsored events.
  • Performs other such duties as may be assigned from time to time.

Position Qualifications

  • Associate's degree required.
  • Must have graduated from an American Sign Language Interpreting Program.
  • Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf certification (NIC) helpful.
  • At least one year of experience in educational interpreting.
  • Fluency in American Sign Language Interpretation.
  • Conveying the thought, intent, and spirit of a speaker to a deaf/hard of hearing person.

Work Hours

Exact hours to be determined with supervisor; generally up to 20 hours per week. Travel required for in-person classes on the NYC campus along withsome evening and weekend hours.
