Job Description
SUMMARY OF THE JOB:
Teaching faculty at Guilford Technical Community College are responsible for supporting student success by creating an optimum learning environment, responding to student needs, managing effective instructional activities, modeling employability skills, demonstrating professionalism, developing cooperative work relationships with other faculty and staff, supporting college administrative requirements, and maintaining competency in their instructional field. He/she will be responsible for quality instruction and for effective participation and interest in the total affairs of the college.
Under general supervision, this individual will prepare and teach courses designed to prepare students to utilize Artificial Intelligence (AI) more effectively, including the use of tools such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Microsoft Co-Pilot, etc. Areas of instructional emphasis include applied hands-on learning, AI Literacy and Responsible Use, Generative AI and Emerging Tools, and foundational concepts for clear application. The faculty member must be able to instruct a wide variety of topics within the curriculum in a classroom environment and may be required to teach day, evening and/or weekend hours. Flexibility to teach on any of GTCC multiple campuses (Greensboro, Jamestown, High Point or Cameron campus.)
Duties/Functions
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/FUNCTIONS:
Teaching
Prepare & teach departmental courses to include:
โ€ข developing learner centered lesson plans
โ€ข employing teaching strategies & instructional materials for different learning styles
โ€ข incorporating, as pedagogically appropriate, current technology in classroom, distance learning and laboratory environments
โ€ข creating and modeling a quality learning environment that supports a diverse student population
โ€ข preparing, distributing and utilizing instructional support materials, including course syllabi, supplementary materials, instructional media and other devices as appropriate
โ€ข conducting appropriate assessment of student learning outcomes in courses and programs/general education as appropriate
Professional Development
Maintain a professional status that supports the instructional mission by:
โ€ข participating in professional development activities to maintain currency in field; maintaining current credentials or licensures as required by program or accreditation
โ€ข participating in professional development opportunities to advance teaching skills and strategies
Administration
Provide daily & ongoing oversight of facilities, equipment and student records to include:
โ€ข maintaining classroom and laboratory spaces including upkeep of assigned equipment
โ€ข providing for the security of facilities, equipment and instructional materials and maintaining safe working conditions
โ€ข maintaining student records (e.g., grades and attendance) in accordance with established deadlines using a variety of technology-based programs (e.g., Colleague, Self Service, Canvas)
โ€ข complying with all applicable college, state and federal rules and regulations
Student Support
Provide an environment conducive to student success to include:
โ€ข addressing student concerns in a timely manner
โ€ข promoting retention/persistence by assisting students to develop strategies for success
โ€ข referring students to campus and community resources when appropriate
โ€ข Demonstrate and model the College's employability skills: adaptability, communication, information processing, problem solving, responsibility and teamwork.

Minimum requirements:
o Bachelor's degree in artificial intelligence, computer science, data science, computer information systems or a related field from an institutionally accredited college or university.
o Experience in at least one programming language (e.g., Python), data literacy, machine learning and AI tools.
Education Preferred
Preferred requirements:
o Master's degree in artificial intelligence, computer science, data science, computer information systems or a related field from an institutionally accredited college or university.
o Current industry recognized certifications in any of the following: Google Pro Machine Learning Engineering, Microsoft Certified: Azure AI Engineer Associate, AWS Certified Machine Learning - Specialty, TensorFlow Developer Certificate, etc.
Experience Required
Minimum requirements:
o Two years of professional experience in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Science or a related technical field.
o Teaching and/or industry training experience in AI concepts including, Machine Learning Fundamentals, Data Analysis and Modeling, and AI Applications in any of the following formats: teaching courses, training sessions, conducting professional development workshops, and/or other continuing education seminars.
Experience Preferred
Preferred requirements:
o Greater than two years industry experiences applying AI in business, healthcare, education, or other applied domains.
o Post secondary teaching experience.
o Experience with assessment of student learning outcomes.
o Experience with teaching distance learning (online) and/or alternate instructional delivery systems.
