Job description

A. Morton Thomas and Associates, Inc. (AMT) is an employee-owned, multidisciplinary engineering firm recognized as an ENR Top 500 firm and a Zweig White Hot Firm. We provide integrated services in engineering, environmental, landscape architecture, surveying, and construction administration.

AMT is growing and seeking a highly motivated entry-level Site / Civil Engineer (0-2 years) to join our Washington, DC office. This role is ideal for an early-career engineer looking for hands-on design experience, mentorship from licensed professionals, and exposure to a wide range of site development projects across the District and surrounding jurisdictions.


Role Overview

As a Site / Civil Engineer, you will support the planning and design of residential, commercial, institutional, and public-sector site development projects. You will work closely with project managers and senior engineers to develop construction documents, coordinate with regulatory agencies, and gain experience across multiple phases of project delivery.

Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on a permanent basis without employer sponsorship. This position is not eligible for employment-based immigration sponsorship, either H1-B or OPT Based future sponsorship.

Responsibilities
  • Assist project managers and engineering staff in the preparation of construction documents
  • Support the design of site and infrastructure improvements, including grading, dry and wet utilities, erosion and sediment control, and stormwater management systems
  • Prepare engineering calculations and technical reports that support design decisions
  • Process plans and documentation through District of Columbia and local regulatory agencies
  • Support construction administration and field activities, including site visits and inspections, as assigned
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering
  • 0-2 years of experience in site/civil engineering design for mixed-use, residential, commercial, institutional, or public projects
  • EIT certification required
  • Exposure to projects in the District of Columbia, Suburban Maryland, and/or Northern Virginia preferred
  • Ability to assist with preparation of plans, specifications, cost estimates, calculations, studies, and reports
  • Technical proficiency with AutoCAD, including Civil 3D (MicroStation experience a plus)
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
