Job description

Location: Wheeling, West Virginia 26003
Starting Pay: $14-25 an hour based on skills & experience
Shifts: M-F 1st & 2nd shift that rotate
A Sandblaster is responsible for cleaning, smoothing, or preparing surfaces by using abrasive materials such as sand, grit, or other blasting media. This process is commonly used to remove rust, paint, scale, or contaminants from metal, wood, concrete, or other surfaces. Sandblasters work in industries such as manufacturing, construction, automotive, shipbuilding, and metal fabrication.
Key Responsibilities:
Set up and operate sandblasting equipment, including air compressors, blast pots, and nozzles.
Prepare surfaces by masking or covering areas not to be blasted.
Select and load appropriate abrasive materials based on the job specifications.
Use compressed air to propel abrasives at high speed to clean or prepare surfaces.
Inspect surfaces before and after blasting to ensure quality standards are met.
Maintain and clean sandblasting equipment to ensure proper operation.
Follow safety procedures and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), such as respirators, face shields, gloves, and protective clothing.
Handle and dispose of blasting media and hazardous materials according to environmental and safety regulations.
Work in confined spaces or elevated areas as needed.
Coordinate with supervisors, engineers, and other team members to complete projects efficiently.
Qualifications & Skills:
Experience with sandblasting equipment and techniques
Knowledge of surface preparation and coating application processes.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and work orders.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety.
Physical stamina and ability to lift heavy objects, work in dusty environments, and stand for long periods.
Understanding of OSHA regulations and workplace safety standards.
Forklift or heavy equipment operation experience (a plus).
Education & Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent (preferred).
Previous experience in sandblasting, industrial painting, or surface preparation is beneficial.
On-the-job training may be provided for entry-level candidates.
Work Environment:
Work is performed in industrial settings such as manufacturing plants, shipyards, construction sites, or automotive shops.
Exposure to loud noise, dust, and abrasive materials.
May require work in confined spaces or extreme temperatures.
