Job description

We are looking for a talented Marine Application Engineer to join our team specializing in Marine Engineering for Cummins, Inc. in New Orleans, LA.

In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways: 

  • Investigate and resolve integration and installation issues, owning problem resolution and documenting outcomes.
  • Apply and continuously improve installation and integration processes (e.g., IQA, OEM integration, product selection).
  • Use engineering tools and systems (Advisor, COLS, GCE) to support accurate, highquality technical decisions.
  • Collaborate and negotiate with SMEs and VPI teams to deliver product data and installation requirements.
  • Make product selection, design, and integration decisions affecting OEM performance, quality, and optimization.
  • Serve as the primary technical liaison for customers, managing specifications, changes, and issue resolution.
  • Translate customer needs and voice of the customer into functional product and system requirements.
  • Ensure correct product application and installation by validating prototypes and installation quality.

Education/Experience:

  • College, university, or equivalent Bachelor's degree in Engineering or appropriate STEM field is required.
  • Post-graduate (Master's) degree relevant to this discipline area may be required for select roles.
  • This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.
  • Entry level/Early career professional. Preferred candidates would have relevant experience working in either a temporary student employment environment (intern, co-op, or other extracurricular team activities) or as an early career professional in a relevant technical discipline area. Knowledge of MS Office tools is also preferred.

Additional Responsibilities:

Successful candidate will support the CSSNA Southern Sales Team and Inland Waterways Region of the United States. Marine knowledge beneficial. Candidate must be local to the region for frequent customer visits for day and overnight trips: 20-40% travel. Strong organization, excellent teamwork, good written and oral communication are needed to be effective in the role. Electrical and controls capability desired. The Marine market requires a team player who is flexible and adaptable to a variety of technical support needs and priorities. International relocation is not offered.

  • Machine Operation and Support - Proactively monitor system performance to identify and resolve issues before they impact the customer. Quickly diagnose failures and performance concerns, minimizing downtime and operating costs. Adapt solutions as customer needs and technologies evolve to maintain reliability and satisfaction.
  • Product Application Support - Develop and maintain clear, accurate technical documentation that supports customers and internal teams. Apply deep cross-system knowledge to create innovative installation tools and integration solutions. Enable sales and customers with technically sound options that meet application and market needs.
  • Product Selection - Guide customers to bestfit product solutions tailored to their specific applications. Translate technical features into clear customer benefits that drive confident decisionmaking. Prevent misapplication by leveraging Cummins' technical systems, specifications, and local requirements.
  • Technical Customer Management - Serve as the trusted technical interface between Cummins and the customer. Provide engineering support, documentation, and training to ensure successful design and integration. Manage product changes through clear communication with Product Development and customers, protecting business. continuity.
