The DBA ensures the reliability, performance, integrity, and security of database environments while providing exceptional customer service to both internal users and external clients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, and upgrade Progress OpenEdge landscapes across Linux and Windows operating systems.
  • Perform routine database maintenance tasks including re-indexing, index rebuilds, integrity checks, and dump and load operations.
  • Design, implement, and maintain backup and disaster recovery strategies, including roll-forward recovery using after-imaging.
  • Monitor database performance, identify bottlenecks, and perform tuning to optimize speed, reliability, and storage efficiency.
  • Support and maintain Windows Server and Linux operating systems hosting database environments.
  • Manage database security, access controls, and compliance with information security best practices.
  • Develop and maintain automation scripts using PowerShell, Bash, or other scripting tools to streamline database operations.
  • Configure and support database integrations with application servers and hosting platforms (IIS, Tomcat, etc.).
  • Troubleshoot and resolve database, system, and application performance issues.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date technical documentation for database configurations, processes, and recovery procedures.
  • Participate in on-call rotations and respond to database and system alerts as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field; or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience administering SQL Server and/or Progress OpenEdge databases in enterprise environments.
  • Deep knowledge of Progress OpenEdge (versions 11.x, 12.x, or 13.x) and associated tools such as OpenEdge Explorer and OpenEdge Management.
  • Strong working knowledge of Windows Server and/or Linux (RHEL) operating systems supporting database platforms.
  • Experience with database backup, recovery, and disaster recovery planning and execution.
  • Proficiency in database performance tuning, indexing strategies, and query optimization.
  • Experience with scripting and automation (PowerShell, Bash, or equivalent).
  • Strong documentation, troubleshooting, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of cloud technologies such as Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud, particularly database hosting services.
  • Familiarity with virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V) in database-hosting environments.
  • Experience with enterprise backup, replication, and high-availability solutions.
  • Exposure to ERP platforms or business applications leveraging Progress or SQL databases.
  • Understanding of ITIL-based service management or project management methodologies.

Key Skills & Attributes

  • Customer-focused mindset with the ability to explain complex database issues in simple terms.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy in data management and system configuration.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, particularly in performance troubleshooting.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Commitment to continuous learning, especially in database technologies and performance optimization.
