Surgical Technologist

We are seeking a dedicated Surgical Technologist to join our operating room team. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of sterile techniques and will assist surgeons during procedures to ensure safe and efficient patient care.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to Infection Control policies and demonstrate expertise in surgical scrub techniques.
  • Maintain sterile technique both preoperatively and intra-operatively.
  • Assist the surgeon by gowning, gloving, draping, and passing instruments and related items as needed.
  • Anticipate the surgeon’s instrument, suture, and equipment needs during procedures.
  • Keep the operative field organized by ensuring instruments are clean and properly placed.
  • Maintain accurate counts of sponges, tapes, needles, dissectors, and instruments.
  • Prepare for surgical cases by assembling supplies and equipment based on preference cards.
  • Identify and resolve any conflicts or problems with supplies and equipment.
  • Provide a safe surgical environment by identifying potential hazards to the surgical team.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of potential hazards within the operating room (e.g., equipment, chemicals, or gases).
  • Act as a resource for new OR personnel and utilize experienced staff when needed.
  • Assist in suturing, retracting, and suctioning under the direction of the surgeon.
  • Handle and identify specimens in accordance with policy.
  • Facilitate the timely turnover of the operating room between cases.
  • Participate in rotating on-call duties.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as requested.
Required Skills & Experience:
  • Prior experience in an operating room setting is preferred.
  • Previous Surgical Technologist experience is ideal.
Education:
  • High School diploma or equivalent is required.
Certifications & Licensure:
  • Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) through NBSTSA is required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required (AHA, HSI, or American Red Cross).
Schedule Notes:

The Surgical Technologist position operates on a day shift schedule, Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, with the possibility of occasional overtime. Expertise in areas such as orthopedics, gynecology, general surgery, podiatry, ENT, and pain management is highly valued. Note that this position can also be filled by a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) with prior operating room experience.
