Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (NP) - Illinois

Position Type
We welcome candidates seeking flexible, PRN work arrangements with a contract period of 6-9 months.
Credentialing Requirements
Qualified candidates must meet all of the following requirements:
  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license
  • Active Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) license
  • Active Controlled Substances License
  • Active DEA License
  • Active Illinois Medicaid Number
  • Credentialed and contracted with the following Illinois Medicaid Managed Care Organizations (MCOs):
    • Aetna
    • Blue Cross Community Health Plan
    • CountyCare
    • Meridian
    • Molina
Position Summary:
We are seeking a PRN Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (NP) to provide outpatient psychiatric care to patients experiencing changes in mental status, chronic psychiatric conditions, or urgent psychiatric needs. The NP will work independently as part of a multidisciplinary medical team with specific clinical privileges.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, risk assessments, and diagnostic tests.
  • Provide psychiatric care in collaboration with an interdisciplinary team.
  • Prescribe medications in accordance with FSOIL policies, formularies, and local regulations.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records.
  • Offer consultation and guidance to nursing and clinical staff to enhance service quality.
  • Uphold professional standards, ethical conduct, and patient confidentiality in compliance with FS's Code of Ethical Behavior and HIPAA regulations.
General Responsibilities:
  • Demonstrate positive service outcomes and stakeholder satisfaction.
  • Support and contribute to FS's quality and performance improvement initiatives.
  • Foster and maintain strong relationships with community service providers.
  • Promote a collaborative and team-oriented workplace culture.
  • Participate in employee surveys to enhance teamwork and organizational development.
Minimum Qualifications:
Licensure & Education:
  • Active and unrestricted clinical licensure as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (NP) in the state of Illinois.
  • Certification: Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner or Mental Health Nurse Practitioner certification from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Nursing and a Master's degree in Psychiatric or Mental Health Nursing from an accredited institution.
  • Credentialing: Candidates with an active Illinois Medicaid Number are highly preferred.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Strong understanding of social determinants of mental health.
  • Ability to assess, diagnose, and treat psychiatric conditions effectively.
  • Compassionate and sensitive approach with excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Proficiency in electronic medical records (EMR), data entry, and medical software applications.
  • Ability to operate and work effectively with medical equipment.
Additional Requirements:

  • Certification in Verbal/Physical De-escalation and participation in required FS professional development training.
  • Valid Driver's License and successful completion of background checks, corporate compliance checks, and employment drug screening.
