JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY:
The Accountant Analyzes and prepares various financial, fiscal and accounting reports and records. Prepares and reviews financial reports and schedules for internal and external use. Prepares journal entries as needed to ensure accurate financial reporting. Reconciles bank statements. Reviews general ledger account activity for precise fiscal reporting and ensuring that data entered into the financial management system is accurate and in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) for local governments. Assists department directors, county and state personnel, vendors and the public by providing general fiscal information and/or advice as requested.
SCHEDULE:
This position operates on our four-day, 10 hour work week (Monday-Thursday); however, there is flexibility to work Monday-Friday. This position is hybrid, with remote work and in-office work as needed for job and team specific duties and collaboration, flexing during periods of year.
COMPENSATION:
Hiring Range: $70,000-$75,000 USD Annually
Compensation will be determined based on education, experience and skills.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
  • Performs various accounting functions by making necessary adjustments in the county's financial system, Workday specifically.

  • Prepare documents for expenditure reporting to State and Federal agencies and other grant programs using multiple financial systems.

  • Reconcile bank statements, State and Federal revenue and expenditures, and various grant programs.

  • Maintain the general ledger and prepare accurate and concise adjusting entries to the general ledger.

  • Assist peers and program employees with accounting tasks.

  • Communicate insights and recommendations to program managers, division heads, and department directors.

  • Contribute to county, state, and federal year-end close-out tasks to maintain accurate reporting and meet deadlines.

  • Balances and reconciles balance sheets and interdepartmental transfer accounts.

  • Coordinates and prepares financial journal entries.

  • Interacts with other agencies and departments by serving as a liaison between external stakeholders and the county. Compiles necessary information as needed by internal and external stakeholders.

  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
Experience: 1 year of work-related experience in Human Services Accounting
Education: Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or similar field
*Note: An equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable.

  • Independent critical thinking and analysis

  • Detail oriented with experience entering and tracking data
