What does an entry data engineer do?

An Entry Data Engineer is responsible for assisting in the design, development, and maintenance of data pipelines and databases. They work with raw data, helping to clean, organize, and prepare it for analysis by more senior engineers or data scientists. Their tasks often include writing basic SQL queries, automating data collection processes, and supporting data quality initiatives. Entry-level data engineers typically work under the guidance of more experienced team members to learn best practices and develop their technical skills.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an entry data engineer?

To thrive as an Entry Data Engineer, you need a solid understanding of programming (often Python or SQL), data structures, and database fundamentals, typically supported by a relevant degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with ETL tools, cloud data platforms (such as AWS or Azure), and version control systems like Git is commonly required. Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and effective communication help you collaborate with teams and troubleshoot data issues. These skills are crucial to ensure high-quality, efficient data pipelines and enable data-driven decision-making within organizations.

What are some common challenges faced by entry data engineers during their first year on the job?

Entry-level data engineers often encounter challenges such as learning new data pipeline tools, understanding complex legacy systems, and adapting to the fast pace of data-driven environments. Balancing requests from multiple stakeholders and ensuring data accuracy can also be demanding, especially when dealing with large datasets. However, most teams provide mentorship and training to help new hires get up to speed, and collaboration with experienced engineers is encouraged to support skill development.

What is the difference between Entry Data Engineer vs Data Analyst?

Senior Certification & Compliance Engineer

Date: Aug 15, 2026

Location: Remote Employee US, NH, US

Summary

Building the next generation of modular data centers and supporting power systems requires navigating an intricate web of factory-built product certifications and site-specific field deployment codes. We are seeking a highly collaborative, action-oriented Senior Certification & Compliance Engineer to join our engineering team.
In this role, you will not simply audit finished designs. Instead, you will embed directly with our product development teams from day one, acting as a technical co-creator of our architectures. You will help bridge the gap between "factory listings" and "field compliance," ensuring that our prefabricated, containerized E-houses, power skids, and modular systems are natively engineered to satisfy global regulatory frameworks, accelerate deployment schedules, and help secure seamless permitting.

Our ideal candidate brings a proven background in certifying heavy electrical power equipment and a proactive drive to navigate complex regulatory landscapes. You will forge strategic relationships with key certification bodies, partner closely with engineering teams to optimize design performance, and develop robust testing plans and schedules that keep projects moving seamlessly from concept to compliance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Upstream Engineering Partnership: Embed with electrical, mechanical, and controls design engineers to proactively guide physical layouts, spacing, component selection, and structural boundaries.
  • Component Specification Review: Vet third-party components (switchgear, inverters, batteries, breakers) to ensure they carry appropriate listings and ratings for our target operating limits.
  • Workspace & Clearance Controls: Ensure all packaging designs strictly respect workspace clearances, egress pathways, and safety boundaries mandated by the National Electrical Code (NEC), NFPA, OSHA, etc.
  • Roadmap Ownership: Define, coordinate, and execute the global product certification strategy for our complete product portfolio.
  • NRTL Interface: Act as the primary technical point of contact with Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratories (NRTLs) such as UL, Intertek (ETL), and CSA.
  • Testing Campaigns: Structure and oversee physical testing programs, including dielectric, short-circuit, thermal runaways, and environmental ingress testing.

3. Standards, Codes & Regulatory Stewardship

  • Electrical Safety & Design Codes: Serve as the subject matter expert on the National Electrical Code (NEC/NFPA 70), NFPA 70E, NFPA 855, NFPA 75 (Fire Protection for IT Equipment), and UL standards (specifically UL 891, UL 1558, UL 508A, UL 9540, UL 1973, and UL 62368-1).
  • Industrialized Building Programs: Navigate state-level industrialized (modular) building programs, managing third-party inspection agency coordination for prefabricated structures.

4. Technical Documentation & Compliance Records

  • Technical Construction Files (TCF): Author and compile comprehensive technical files, listing documentation, safety labels, and installation/operating manuals.
  • Traceability Matrix: Maintain rigorous compliance traceability matrices showing how design elements satisfy specific clauses of target standards.
  • Production Line Alignment: Work alongside manufacturing teams to establish routine factory compliance tests on our assembly floors.
Technical Expertise
  • Standards Proficiency: Strong working knowledge of NEC (NFPA 70), IBC (structural and seismic constraints), OSHA regulations, and UL product listings (UL 891, UL 1558, UL 508A, UL 9540/9540A).
  • Safety & Risk Mitigation: Experience with safety design techniques such as Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and Hazard Identification (HAZID) studies.
Physical Demands
  • Duties of this position are performed in a normal office environment or manufacturing floor
  • Likely there will be a significant amount of travel between customer and Celestica locations
  • Duties may require extended periods of sitting and sustained visual concentration on a computer monitor or on numbers and other detailed data.
  • Repetitive manual movements (e.g., data entry, using a computer mouse, using a calculator, etc.) are frequently required.
  • Above demands are carried out within the local existing Health and Safety guidelines

The stated range includes Base Salary. A comprehensive benefits package is offered in addition to this range.
The range described in this posting is an estimate by the Company, and may change based on several factors, including but not limited to a change in the duties covered by the job posting, or the credentials, experience or geographic jurisdiction of the successful candidate.

Typical Experience
  • 6+ Years of direct experience in regulatory compliance, standards engineering, or design-focused product safety roles.
  • Proven Track Record certifying industrial power equipment, modular enclosures, grid-tied battery systems, or complex data center utility skids.
  • Demonstrated experience successfully guiding a product through an initial NRTL listing campaign (e.g., UL or Intertek) from architecture kick-off to certificate issuance.
Typical Education
  • Required: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Preferred: Active participation in professional standards technical committees (e.g., IEEE, UL, NFPA).
