Ypsilanti Community High School is seeking an innovative, passionate, and industry-experienced Career and Technical Education (CTE) Business, Marketing, and Entrepreneurship Instructor to lead our growing Business, Marketing, and Entrepreneurship Program. This position provides students with hands-on, industry-aligned instruction that prepares them for successful careers in business management, entrepreneurship, marketing, finance, sales, digital media, and emerging business technologies.
The ideal candidate is a dynamic business professional and educator committed to student success, workforce development, and creating engaging learning experiences that connect classroom instruction with real-world business opportunities. The successful candidate will inspire students to think creatively, solve authentic business challenges, launch entrepreneurial ventures, and develop the leadership skills necessary for success in college, careers, and life.
GENERAL STATEMENT OF THE JOB
Under the general supervision of school administration, the Career and Technical Education (CTE) Business, Marketing, and Entrepreneurship Instructor provides high-quality instruction that prepares students for careers in business, marketing, entrepreneurship, finance, and related industries. The instructor is responsible for planning and delivering standards-based instruction, supervising students in classroom and project-based learning environments, maintaining an engaging and industry-relevant learning environment, and fostering the development of technical, academic, employability, leadership, and entrepreneurial skills.
The instructor is responsible for the overall operation, management, and supervision of the Business, Marketing, and Entrepreneurship Program, including curriculum implementation, student assessment, industry partnerships, work-based learning opportunities, career development activities, and student business ventures. The instructor collaborates with staff, families, industry partners, and community stakeholders to ensure that students are prepared for postsecondary.
The position reports to the Building Principal and the designated Career and Technical Education Administrator.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Instruction and Curriculum
- Develop and deliver engaging lessons aligned with Michigan CTE standards and business industry expectations.
- Provide classroom and project-based instruction in business, entrepreneurship, marketing, finance, management, leadership, and professional communication.
- Teach topics including entrepreneurship, business ownership, business operations, digital marketing, social media marketing, branding, customer service, business law, financial literacy, sales, leadership, e-commerce, and innovation.
- Guide students in developing business plans, marketing campaigns, financial projections, and entrepreneurial ventures.
- Differentiate instruction to meet diverse student learning needs.
- Integrate employability skills, workplace readiness, and career exploration into daily instruction.
- Utilize a variety of instructional strategies and technologies to enhance student engagement and achievement.
- Develop and maintain lesson plans that align with district curriculum, state standards, and industry expectations.
- Facilitate authentic business experiences through student-led enterprises, simulations, school-based businesses, and community partnerships.
- Prepare students for relevant industry-recognized credentials and certifications in business, entrepreneurship, finance, and marketing.
- Integrate emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence tools and applications, to enhance student learning and workforce readiness.
Student Learning and Assessment
- Assess student progress using formative and summative assessments.
- Monitor student achievement and provide timely feedback.
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, competencies, certifications, and student performance.
- Develop individualized support strategies to promote student success.
- Support students in developing career portfolios, resumes, business plans, marketing campaigns, and professional presentations.
- Prepare students to demonstrate mastery of technical competencies through industry-aligned assessments and capstone projects.
- Support students in earning industry-recognized certifications and credentials relevant to business, entrepreneurship, finance, and marketing..
Program Management
- Maintain a professional, organized, and industry-relevant learning environment.
- Ensure compliance with district, state, and federal regulations.
- Manage instructional resources, technology, equipment, and materials.
- Supervise students during classroom instruction, field experiences, and work-based learning activities.
- Coordinate student participation in Career and Technical Student Organizations (CTSOs), including DECA and Business Professionals of America (BPA).
- Develop and maintain partnerships with local businesses, entrepreneurs, chambers of commerce, colleges, and industry professionals.
- Assist students in securing internships, job shadowing opportunities, and other work-based learning experiences.
- Assist with the development and expansion of Business, Entrepreneurship, and Marketing pathways within the district's CTE programming.
- Collaborate with local entrepreneurs and business leaders to provide mentorship opportunities and authentic learning experiences.
Student Support and School Climate
- Instruct and counsel students to enhance academic performance, employability skills, professionalism, leadership, and workplace readiness.
- Manage student behavior for the purpose of providing a safe and optimal learning environment.
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and culturally responsive classroom environment.
- Monitor students in a variety of educational settings to ensure safety and engagement.
Collaboration and Communication
- Collaborate with school staff, administrators, counselors, industry partners, and community organizations.
- Establish and maintain positive relationships with students, parents, and guardians.
- Participate in professional development, staff meetings, CTE initiatives, and school improvement efforts.
- Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress and program expectations.
- Assist with student recruitment, program promotion, and community outreach activities.
- Collaborate with business and industry leaders to ensure curriculum remains aligned with workforce needs.
Professional Responsibilities
- Participate in district, state, and industry-related professional learning opportunities.
- Maintain current knowledge of business trends, entrepreneurship, digital marketing, financial literacy, artificial intelligence, and emerging technologies.
- Complete required reports, documentation, and compliance records in a timely manner.
Respond appropriately to emergencies and report incidents in accordance with district policies and procedures.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Required
- Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with one or more of the following endorsements:
- Business, Management, Marketing, and Technology (GQ)
- Business Education (GX) (formerly issued endorsement)
- Marketing Education (KH) (formerly issued endorsement)
- Other appropriate Michigan Department of Education-approved business-related endorsement. ? OR eligibility to obtain a Michigan Career and Technical Education (CTE) Annual Authorization, Interim Occupational Certificate, or Standard Occupational Certificate in one of the following CIP-aligned program areas:

- Marketing
- Entrepreneurship
- Finance
- Administrative Services
- E-Commerce and Digital Marketing
- Minimum of 4,000 recent and relevant work hours in business, marketing, entrepreneurship, finance, sales, management, or a related occupational area as required for CTE authorization through the Michigan Department of Education.
- Demonstrated knowledge of business operations, entrepreneurship, marketing principles, financial literacy, customer service, business communications, and workplace readiness skills.

- Experience supporting students in earning industry-recognized credentials such as Entrepreneurship and Small Business (ESB), Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS), QuickBooks Certified User, Google Digital Marketing, HubSpot Marketing, or other business-related certifications.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Work is performed in both classroom and laboratory settings. The position requires standing, walking, demonstrating barbering techniques, lifting and moving instructional materials and equipment, and frequent use of technology and standard office equipment. Duties may require lifting and moving items up to 25 pounds.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed in a school environment with exposure to classroom and barbering laboratory settings. The position requires the ability to work under deadlines, manage multiple priorities, and maintain a safe learning environment for students. Occasional local travel for professional development, industry events, student competitions, and work-based learning activities may be required.
TERMS
The contract, salary and other employment conditions will be established by the Board of Education. Applicants who receive a conditional offer of employment for this position will be required to commit to leadership with a traditional and/or balanced calendar. Further, the applicant must agree to fully participate in all relevant training, inclusive of or unique to the building assigned and the District.
