Work Location: Department of Entomology, Baton Rouge, LA 70803

Position Description: The individual will be expected to perform a variety of duties as an post-doctoral associate in the Department of Entomology in coordination with the USDA-ARS Honey Bee Breeding, Genetics and Physiology Research Laboratory (HBBGPRL). These duties will include conducting research related to honey bee cell culture and viruses, including developing pipelines for primary cell culture testing and viral clones; assisting with outreach and extension; sampling honey bee colonies; and collecting and computerizing research data. Additional duties will be concordant with expertise and may include conducting basic and advanced science laboratory techniques, such as established molecular and organismal biology methods (e.g. DNA and RNA extractions, ecotoxicology assays), microscopy, and managing research honey bee colonies.The individual will be expected to design experiments in relation to project objectives and be able to troubleshoot and refine methodologies as appropriate. Current projects would require the successful applicant to coordinate work as part of a team of extension technicians, field technicians, and researchers at the USDA-ARS HBBGPRL, beekeepers, and related units in joint tasks when deemed necessary.

Qualification Requirements:A minimum of a PhD in the entomology, biology, microbiology and immunology, virology, genetics or related fields and prior postdoctoral research experience. If the candidate possesses sufficient relevant experience with honey bees, then the field of degree could be outside of those listed. Preference will be given to applicants with prior experience working with honey bees in laboratory and field settings and the beekeeping community, and specifically with regard to honey bee cell culturing and virology. Preference will also be given to candidates with additional training in basic sciences like molecular biology, entomology, microscopy, and/or field work.

Salary and Benefits: Salary will be commensurate with education and experience. The LSU AgCenter has an attractive benefits package with a wide variety of benefit options.
