Job description

Job Summary

The Rigging Installer supports the installation of theatrical and entertainment rigging systems in performing arts venues, theaters, arenas, and other cultural facilities. Working under the direction of experienced Lead Installers and Project Managers, this role assists with installation, assembly, and testing of rigging systems while maintaining a safe and organized job site. This position offers the opportunity to develop specialized skills in theatrical rigging while working alongside experienced professionals on unique projects across the country. The role requires frequent travel and hands-on work in construction and performance environments.


Essential Functions

  • Installs rigging equipment under the direction of a lead installer.
  • Assist on other installation projects as schedules allow including but not limited to hang and focus, cultural and themed entertainment (CTE), or Productions.
  • Work in warehouse when required for shop preparation or inventory.
  • Communicate effectively to supervisors, management, and team members.
  • Acquire ETCP Rigging certification between 12-18 months after the start of employment. When certification is acquired, VLS will reimburse the cost of the test.
  • Willing to learn and grow into lead positions.
  • Retain knowledge of skill and process that are taught by supervisors and managers.
  • Travel and stay out of town on short notice.
  • Communicate with PM on needs and availability in a timely manner.
  • Complete timecard accurately and timely.
  • Attends meetings as necessary for project kickoffs.


Other Functions

  • Collaborate with other team members or divisions on other projects assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications and Education

  • Construction or rigging experienced preferred
  • High school Diploma or equivalent
  • Possess a valid driverโ€™s license
  • Basic Knowledge of windows, smart phone, PC skills desired
  • Accurate record keeping and attention to detail

Physical Demands/Work Environment

Requires frequent travel that may require nights and weekends. The work environment for this position requires prolonged periods of standing, walking, lifting, pushing and pulling equipment that may be heavy, often with movements like bending, stooping, and climbing. You will be required to work at heights from lifts, scaffolding, or walking grids frequently. Must be able to move or carry a minimum of 75lbs without assistance. The work environment may expose the worker to conditions like extreme heat, cold and noise along with hazards like dust, debris, fumes, moving machinery and potential electrical shock. Workers must wear personal protective equipment (PPE) which includes but not limited to hardhats, harnesses, safety glasses, hi-viz clothing, steel toe boots (or composite), and gloves to mitigate these risks.
