Director, Assistant General Counsel – Enterprise Risk Management, Litigation Collaborate with Innovative 3Mers Around the World. The Impact You'll Make in this Role The Director & Assistant General Counsel, Enterprise Risk Management (ERM), Litigation role is a senior legal position for an experienced litigator responsible for managing complex civil litigation matters on a fast‐paced legal team. This individual will oversee and provide strategic legal guidance on cases involving environmental issues, product liability, property damage, attorney general investigations, consumer claims, and other significant litigation risks, helping the organization mitigate legal exposure and manage enterprise‐wide risk. Strategically manage complex environmental and mass tort litigation, including supervising outside counsel and consultants Proactively advise 3M business and Legal Affairs colleagues regarding litigation and company risk Contribute to the efficiency and effectiveness of the Enterprise Risk Management team Your Skills and Expertise To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications: Bachelor's degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start) Juris Doctor degree (completed and verified prior to start) Ten (10) years of law firm and/or in‐house litigation experience in a private, public, government, or military environment Currently admitted to practice law in relevant jurisdictions or eligible to become so within 6 months Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include: Experience serving as in‐house counsel Trial and appellate court experience in state and federal courts, in a private, public, government or military environment Experience serving as national or coordinating counsel for significant litigation Experience with civil litigation, particularly mass torts, multidistrict litigations, product liability and environmental actions Experience managing or coordinating large teams Experience managing budgets Highly effective written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to communicate at all levels of the organization, including business leaders, department leaders, and director‐level management Self‐starter with the ability to triage and manage time‐sensitive matters simultaneously and effectively Work Location Remote – This position has the possibility for remote work for candidates located more than 50 miles from 3M Global Headquarters in Maplewood, MN. For candidates located within a commutable distance to Maplewood, MN, this role follows an on‐site working model, requiring the employee to work at least four days a week at the 3M Center in Maplewood, MN. Travel may include up to 15% domestic/international. Relocation assistance is not authorized.
