Position Overview:

The Laser Engraving Machine Operator is responsible for operating laser engraving equipment to apply serial numbers, part markings, identification information, and other required features to precision manufactured components. Working from engineering drawings, work instructions, and production documentation, this individual ensures parts are accurately engraved and meet all customer, quality, and traceability requirements.

This role requires strong attention to detail, the ability to follow established processes, and a commitment to producing high-quality work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. The Machine Operator will work closely with Machining, Quality, and Production teams to support on-time delivery of customer products.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate laser engraving equipment to mark serial numbers, part numbers, identification information, and other required features on manufactured components.
  • Load, unload, and position parts in fixtures and work holding devices to ensure accurate and repeatable engraving results.
  • Review work instructions, production orders, engineering drawings, and specifications to verify engraving requirements.
  • Verify correct part identification, serial numbers, revision levels, and customer-specific marking requirements prior to processing.
  • Perform visual and dimensional inspections to ensure engraving quality, accuracy, and compliance with specifications.
  • Monitor machine performance and make basic adjustments as necessary to maintain engraving quality and productivity.
  • Identify and communicate quality concerns, equipment issues, or process deviations to supervisors or technical personnel.
  • Maintain inventory of consumables, fixtures, and materials required to support daily production activities.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts focused on quality, efficiency, and error reduction.
  • Perform routine operator-level maintenance and cleaning of equipment.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Follow all company policies, procedures, and safety requirements.
  • Be available for occasional overtime to support production schedules and customer requirements.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum 2 years of manufacturing, machine operation, assembly, inspection, or other hands-on production experience required.
  • Ability to read and follow work instructions, production documentation, and basic engineering drawings.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to consistently perform repetitive tasks with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to enter production data and review electronic work instructions.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to learn equipment operation and manufacturing processes.
  • Ability to use basic measuring and inspection equipment such as calipers, rulers, gauges, or similar tools.
  • Ability to prioritize work and adapt to changing production requirements.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

  • This position works primarily within a manufacturing environment supporting machining and production operations.
  • Requires prolonged periods of standing and walking throughout the workday while operating equipment, processing parts, and performing inspections.
  • Regular use of hands, fingers, and arms to handle components, load and unload fixtures, operate equipment, and complete production tasks.
  • Requires frequent handling of small and precision-manufactured components while maintaining attention to detail and product traceability.
  • Frequent bending, reaching, twisting, and movement between workstations, equipment, and production areas.
  • Requires visual acuity sufficient to read part markings, verify serial numbers, inspect engraving quality, review work instructions, and identify defects.
  • Regular use of computers, scanners, and production software to access work instructions, enter production information, and maintain traceability records.
  • May require lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling materials, fixtures, and containers weighing up to 35 pounds. Occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds may be required.
  • Regular exposure to a manufacturing environment that may include moving mechanical equipment, moderate noise levels, machine oils, lubricants, cleaning solutions, and airborne particles.
  • Safety glasses and other required personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn in designated manufacturing areas.
  • Requires the ability to maintain focus and accuracy while performing repetitive tasks and working with customer-specific identification and traceability requirements.
  • May support multiple workstations or production areas based on production schedules and business needs.
  • Occasional overtime may be required to support production schedules and customer delivery requirements.
