Job description

POSITION TITLE:  City Wide Bilingual Spanish Tutor 
DEPARTMENT:      English Learners
REPORTS TO:       Supervisor of ESL/Adult Education
Special Instructions:





  • Bachelor's degree and experience working with students
  • Fluent in Spanish
  • Work with members of the English Learner Dept. to identify the English proficiency level of students and determine appropriate support.
  • Attend a 3-6-hour orientation to understand the LAS Links English Proficiency test and
  • EL Dept. procedures.
  • Devise an instructional program for each assigned student.
  • Meet with small groups of students for the purpose of providing instruction.
  • Collaborate with the student's parents or guardians and work with counselors and/orclassroom teachers to establish a cohesive instructional program based on the student'sindividual needs.
  • Complete and file written progress reports, identification & testing results, as well asannual assessments on each assigned student.
  • Keep, maintain and file such reports and records as the EL Supervisor may require,including attendance reports.
  • Attend Wednesday staff meetings for the purpose of updates on procedure requirements, dept. initiatives, and continued professional development.

           
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Other duties may be assigned

  • Candidates should be fluent in Spanish
  • Candidates should have experience working with English Learners
  • Candidates should have knowledge of LAS Links assessments
  • Candidates should have knowledge of Connecticut English Learners Proficiency
    Standards
  • Candidates should be able create and maintain a positive learning environment
    and standards of behavior.
  • Candidates should be able to develop teaching strategies that are appropriate for
    the English learners.
  • Candidates should be able to implement instruction that reflects structure and
    logical sequence for the appropriate learning levels.
  • Candidates should be able to organize and request teaching materials appropriate
    for English learners.
  • Candidates will help administer appropriate LAS Placement testing.
  • Candidates will maintain accurate attendance records
  • Candidates should have experience working with K-12 students
  • Candidates should have experienced in running small group sessions
  • Candidates should have knowledge of Community Resources

Rate of Pay:  Based on Experience and level of education-This is a yearly contract position based on grant funding.
