Job description

Purpose:

The Lead Electrical Engineering Supervisor will be responsible for managing the overall performance of engineering projects, assisting with equipment troubleshooting and implementation of new technologies into the Float Glassmaking Operations

The purpose of the Lead Electrical Engineering Supervisor position is to represent the needs of the production departments to continuously improve the process and systems. 

Essential Functions:

  • Ensure 10 Key Safety Leadership Behaviors, all safety rules, policies and procedures are met.  Maintain a safe working environment.
  • Promote and comply with all plant policies and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance for all required training within the department.
  • Ensure all EHS standards relating to equipment are met for new equipment, following the MOC process for new equipment brought on site.
  • Responsible for coordinating the capital planning and implementation of capital projects not necessarily related to equipment replacement.
  • Coordinate contractor activities to ensure safety and costs are controlled and deadlines met while adhering to NSG standards.
  • Manages the technical support services required to maintain or upgrade the physical plant, production equipment, engineering processes and methods to facilitate production.
  • Responsible for the writing of CEPs for plant projects and plant maintenance
  • Directs capital type projects from feasibility studies through design and ultimate implementation.  These projects are evaluated by analyzing the available technology and equipment, determining the investment cost and need for the equipment.  The incumbent must stay abreast of the newest developments in the state-of-the-art technologies.
  • Determines facility needs through working with other managers, maintenance and Group Engineering technical staff. 
  • Work with outside contractors, utilizing the competitive bidding process to secure equipment and/or services for projects when necessary.  Projects are monitored from inception to conclusion. 
  • Work with Group Engineering or outside engineering services to direct or assist with larger projects.
  • Supervise skilled workers and have wide experience in plant operations.
  • Implements measures designed to provide safe working conditions for plant personnel. 
  • Generate ideas that lead to reduction of cost and improvement of work processes.
  • Select, develop, train, motivate and appraise subordinate personnel to provide for a competent work force.  Ensure all Direct Reports have responsibilities directly attributable to obtaining the engineering managers and plant objectives.
  • Be able to ensure back fill for any of direct reports.
  • Ensure that all projects have spares setup in stores before project will be considered complete.
  • Responsible for creating a scope of work documents for the Plant buyer to issue the RFQ. Group leader may need to lead plant walk through with suppliers in support of the Plant Buyer lead competitive bidding process.
  • Assist in training and qualification of employees as needed, mostly in maintenance.
  • Report quality system problems and eliminate occurrences.

Qualifications Required:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or equivalent work experience.
  • 8+ years of experience in the Engineering and Maintenance field
  • Supervisory and leadership experience in a continuous manufacturing setting
  • 3 to 5 years of experience supervising hourly, salary and contractor personnel
  • Solid interpersonal, coaching and communication skills
  • Ability to facilitate groups in an employee involvement environment
  •  Should have excellent troubleshooting ability, technical knowledge of production equipment, mechanical and electrical equipment, computer operations, and ability to motivate maintenance personnel under pressure
  •  Must be able to coordinate several projects simultaneously
  •  Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Basic computer skills – Excel, Word, PowerPoint
  • Knowledge of glass manufacturing (coating experience a plus)

Qualifications Desired:

  • Exposure to Six Sigma (Green Belt).
  • SAP experience
  • Previous glass experience (coating experience a plus)
