Job description

Civil Design Engineer – 5–7 Years Experience

Job Overview

Bertin Engineering is seeking an experienced and motivated Civil Design Engineer with 5–7 years of professional experience to join our team in Glen Rock, New Jersey.

Bertin Engineering is an established multidisciplinary consulting firm with a successful track record of providing highly professional service and quality designs. Our team of civil, mechanical, electrical, structural, architectural, environmental, and geotechnical professionals works collaboratively on a diverse range of projects throughout New Jersey.

We are conveniently located in the center of Glen Rock, NJ, near two NJ Transit train stations and a bus terminal, providing an easy commute to and from New York City. Restaurants, coffee shops, and retail stores are also within walking distance of our office.

Responsibilities

  • Design and draft conceptual and final site engineering drawings.
  • Prepare zoning and engineering calculations.
  • Prepare plans and specifications for bidding and construction.
  • Perform civil/site design and land development work for a variety of projects.
  • Participate in project coordination with surveying, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, structural, and architectural disciplines.
  • Prepare engineering studies, technical reports, and supporting documentation.
  • Assist with permitting for projects throughout New Jersey.
  • Coordinate with project team members to ensure designs meet project requirements and applicable standards.
  • Conduct field visits and site inspections as necessary.
  • Assist with projects from initial design through permitting and construction.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or a related engineering discipline from an accredited university.
  • 5–7 years of professional civil engineering experience, preferably in site design and land development.
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
  • Current New Jersey PE license or ability to obtain New Jersey licensure required.
  • Prior experience with site plan design in New Jersey required.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Experience with Hydroflow, CivilStorm, HydroCAD, or similar stormwater/hydraulic design software preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong knowledge of civil/site design, grading, drainage, utilities, and land development principles.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical and judgment capabilities.
  • Ability to effectively work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple assignments and deadlines.
