Job description

Position Summary

Position Summary:

The Manufacturing Engineering Supervisor provides technical leadership while directly contributing to the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of manufacturing processes. This position balances hands-on engineering responsibilities with the supervision and development of a small team of engineering technicians. The supervisor serves as both a technical expert and people leader, leading manufacturing improvement initiatives, resolving complex production issues, supporting new product introductions, and ensuring manufacturing processes meet safety, quality, delivery, and cost objectives. This role is expected to spend a significant portion of time performing individual engineering work while coordinating team priorities and mentoring employees.

Responsibilities

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Technical Leadership & Individual Contribution - Personally leads and executes manufacturing engineering projects from concept through implementation. Develops, validates, and optimizes manufacturing processes, tooling, work instructions, and process documentation. 

  • Process Improvement - Implements strategies to drive innovation and improve manufacturing processes and technologies. Identifies, recommends and leads improvement plans that impact site level operations.  May lead cross functional teams in process improvement initiatives. 

  • People Leadership - Supervises and develops engineering technicians. Establishes priorities and balances engineering resources to support production and strategic initiatives. Promotes accountability, teamwork, and a culture of continuous improvement. 

  • Strategic Improvement - Partners with Operations leadership to establish engineering priorities aligned with business objectives. Develops standard work, KPIs, and process metrics to monitor manufacturing performance. 

  • Budget & Expense Planning - Supports capital budgeting process and responsible for managing capital projects and capital spending.  May oversee resource allocation and monitoring budget controls within team. 

  • Internal and/or Supplier Interaction - Communicates with Tier 2 or Tier 3 suppliers and /or internal customers to define product specifications and parameters. Supports non-conforming material disposition plans. 

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in related Engineering field with 4+ years of experience in a production environment.
  • Advanced knowledge and ability to apply concepts of engineering to the oversight of support staff and their routine activities.
  • Previous demonstrated experience in leading projects and providing technical leadership.
  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes, process improvement, and problem-solving methodologies.
  • Effective in ensuring support team achieves consistent execution of manufacturing processes while maintaining compliance with safety guidelines.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze process flows for enhancements to quality, cost reduction, and throughput.
  • Effective in coordinating the execution of new product development through partnership with product development, supply chain, and operations.
  • Demonstrated ability to balance technical engineering responsibilities with people leadership. 
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to communicate and execute a desired vision to other employees. 
  • Strong communication, organizational, and project management skills. 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and manufacturing ERP/MRP systems. 
  • Experience working in motion and control technologies preferred.
