SUMMARY

Jumpstart your hospitality career with The Penn Stater?s Rotational Internship Program?a 15-week immersive, hands-on experience designed to develop future skilled hospitality leaders.

As a Rooms Intern, you will rotate through key areas like Front Desk, Housekeeping, Maintenance, and Guest Services, while gaining exposure to the financial and business side of hotel operations through a dedicated Finance rotation.

Customize your experience based on your interests, explore additional areas like Sales, Conference Services, or Human Resources, and work alongside experienced leaders and mentors.

You will complete a capstone project and present your recommendations to the Executive Team?graduating from the program with the skills, confidence, and real-world experience to launch your hospitality career.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Rotational Learning Experience

  • Complete structured rotations across Rooms Division departments (Front Desk, Housekeeping, Guest Services, Laundry, or Maintenance)
  • Participate in a Finance Immersion rotation, gaining exposure to:
    • Budgeting and forecasting
    • Labor and cost management
    • Revenue drivers and profitability
  • Follow a defined learning plan for each rotation, including objectives, hands-on tasks, and deliverables
  • Collaborate with department leaders and mentors to understand daily operations and strategic priorities

Guest Experience & Operations

  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to delivering exceptional guest service
  • Support daily operations in assigned departments, contributing to team success
  • Respond promptly and professionally to guest needs and service opportunities
  • Uphold Scholar Hotels? service standards and brand expectations

Professional Development

  • Partner with an assigned program mentor throughout the internship
  • Receive coaching and feedback from rotation leaders
  • Participate in structured check-ins and learning reflections after each rotation
  • Build cross-functional knowledge of hotel operations and develop skills that prepare you for future leadership roles in hospitality

Capstone Project

  • Complete a cross-functional capstone project focused on improving an aspect of the guest experience, operations, or financial performance
  • Present findings and recommendations to the Executive Team at the conclusion of the program
