Job description

Janicki Industries is an innovative, family-owned aerospace company located at the foot of the Cascades. We focus on engineering and manufacturing complex projects for companies in the aerospace, defense, and space industries. We are looking for a Director of Engineering to join our growing team.
This position is located on-site in Hamilton, Washington State.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Director of Engineering must leverage their experience, knowledge, and expertise to provide leadership and vision to a team of design engineers and technicians to ensure Janicki has a flexible and diverse team capable of supporting a wide range of design and engineering projects. The Director of Engineering develops individuals, teams, and company procedures to support the vision and demands of continuous improvement and growth.
The position requires execution of the following essential job functions:
  • Provides leadership and vision to the Design and Engineering team to inspire the continuous improvement of JI products, processes, individuals, and teams
  • Ensures the establishment, monitoring, and reporting of key metrics that support the vision for continuous improvement and growth
  • Maintains a focus on employee communication, coaching & mentorship, growth, and morale
  • Ensures the establishment and adherence to design process and workflow that support AS9100 and NADCAP requirements
  • Provides management and oversight to the Design and Engineering team in the areas of capacity planning, resources management, delegation, efficiency, and design schedule execution to support Janicki's commitment to on-time product delivery
  • Ensures effective risk management in the areas of delegation, design workflow, and offload management
  • Ensures Design and Engineering team engages in effective stakeholder communication
  • Develops and maintains relationships with a well-rounded group of offload resources capable of supporting Janicki's wide range of design requirements
  • Provides management support to lead designers for underperforming projects and offload resources
  • Delegates project assignments to Design manager, lead design engineers and other staff
  • Promotes effective communication between the design and engineering team and their customers
  • Ensures the Design and Engineering team maintains a commitment and focus on excellent customer service both internally and externally
  • Ensures there is proper oversight and review of designs and engineering plans
  • Behavior: The incumbent must work well under pressure, meeting and completing multiple deadlines. The incumbent shall, at all times, demonstrate cooperative behavior with colleagues and supervisors.
  • Being at work on time and maintaining good attendance is a condition of employment and is an essential function of the job.

Senior Level:
  • Creates senior level leadership, vision, and long-range strategic direction
  • Oversees engineering resource strategies
  • Drives strategic stakeholder engagement
  • Provides senior-level support and intervention on complex, high-visibility, or underperforming projects ensuring rigorous technical oversight

QUALIFICATIONS
  • This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Secret Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required). Janicki will assist with gaining this access once employed. Special Access Program or other Government Access Requirements are mandatory for this position and requires candidate agreed to enter a Continuous Evaluation program.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related field is required
  • Recommended 7-10+ years' experience as a Program Manager, Senior Project Engineer, Senior Design Engineer or equivalent position in composite and/or metallic part fabrication and assembly
  • Able to translate business strategy into an actionable plan and execute the plan efficiently
  • Must have strong communication skills through written, verbal, and graphical mediums in the English language
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, CATIA, and NX CAD software is required

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
  • Salary range for this role is between $130,000 - $185,000, plus discretionary bonus, 401(k) matching, vacation, and health benefits. Employees can also receive additional pay for off-shifts. The range provided is Janicki's estimate of the base compensation for this role. Actual amount offered will be based on job-related and non-discriminatory factors such as experience, location, education, training, skills, and abilities
