Collins Aerospace, an RTX business, is seeking a Software Engineering Manager to lead our Connected Aviation Solutions (CAS) software team developing and sustaining mission-critical Air Traffic Control (ATC) and Avionics systems used worldwide for civil and military operations. You will guide a talented group of engineers building safety‑of‑life, highly reliable solutions that ensure global aviation traffic is monitored, managed, and protected. This is an opportunity to lead a team working across complex, large-scale legacy systems while driving modernization, DevSecOps adoption, and cloud/container-based architectures. You will play a central role in technical strategy, execution excellence, and people development within a dynamic, cross-functional environment. As a Software Engineering Manager, you’ll not only oversee day-to-day development activities but also influence strategy, process improvements, and engineering excellence. If you’re a decisive leader with a passion for software, systems, and people, this is your runway. This position will sit at our Aguadilla, PR location. You must be residing in Puerto Rico at the time of starting employment. Relocation is not offered. This role is categorized as hybrid, with 3 days onsite and 2 days remote following the schedule assigned by the Manager.

What YOU will do:

Lead a team of software engineers delivering high-quality, safety‑critical ATC and avionics applications. Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performance team culture focused on accountability, continuous learning, and engineering excellence. Set clear technical direction across development, integration, and sustainment efforts for large-scale, operational systems. Oversee development within complex legacy code bases while advancing modernization efforts (DevSecOps, automation, pipelines, containerization, orchestration). Ensure high-quality software artifacts that comply with aerospace standards and internal RTX engineering processes. Guide engineers through investigation and resolution of complex technical issues, demonstrating strong systems‑level thinking and an ability to connect software behavior with broader system performance. Support design reviews, architecture discussions, and integration planning across cross‑functional teams (systems, verification, program engineering). Manage team capacity, resource allocation, hiring decisions, succession planning, and performance evaluations. Support program‑level cost estimation, risk management, schedule planning, and technical execution reporting. Maintain strong adherence to established processes, Agile methodologies, documentation standards, and compliance expectations. Champion continuous improvement initiatives related to CI/CD automation, deployment pipelines, orchestration tooling, and infrastructure modernization. Oversee use of container technologies (Docker, Kubernetes, Helm) and asynchronous messaging systems (ZeroMQ, RabbitMQ) within operational software solutions.

Qualifications you must have:

Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience. Demonstrated professional experience communicating in English (verbal and written). U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.

Qualifications We Prefer:

Leadership experience in embedded or safety‑critical software development, ideally within aerospace, ATC, or regulated environments. Experience supporting or developing Air Traffic Management Systems Strong background in OOP and compiled languages (C, C++, Java). Experience with Unix/Linux, Bash or Python scripting, and build systems such as Make, CMake, or Maven. Familiarity with large legacy code bases and ability to deep‑dive independently into complex, long‑standing technical issues. Exposure to Ada or willingness to learn. Experience with DevSecOps methodologies and tools for automation, orchestration, and CI/CD pipeline creation. Proficiency with Docker, Kubernetes, Helm charts, and asynchronous messaging frameworks (ZeroMQ, RabbitMQ). Familiarity with Agile practices and tools (Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket, Bamboo).
