Job description

Hello! I'm Emily, owner of Empathic Engineering based primarily out of Milwaukee, WI.


Currently, I'm looking for an intern to join me in living and working on a cooperative farm in Plymouth, WI for 6 weeks of the remaining harvest season (Sep-Oct).


We would perform hands-on farm operations Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. This consists of limited screen time and getting your hands dirty. Thursday and Friday would be business-focused with some computer work and in-person meetings. Weekends are free for adventure.


Responsibilities


Mon-Wed: Farm Operations

  • Gathering chicken eggs, feeding chickens (optional)
  • Harvesting vegetables and herbs
  • Processing farm orders, including washing, trimming, packaging


Thurs-Fri: Empathic Engineering Growth

  • Preparing presentations on how to help engineers and manufacturing leaders develop empathy in various contexts (focus on experience-based learning methods)
  • Traveling to business meetings in Greater Milwaukee and across Wisconsin
  • Documenting internship experience and business development for social media (LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook)
  • Connecting with institutions of higher education to enhance partnerships


Qualifications


The most important skill for this position is a willingness to experiment. That may look like:


  • A background in engineering or tech (manufacturing is a plus)
  • Recognition that excessive stress causes inefficiency in the workplace
  • Previous work in facilitation or instructional design
  • Interest in Social-Emotional Learning

This internship is two parts, Farm + Empathic Engineering. Compensation is as follows:

  2. A weekly stipend is available through Empathic Engineering, depending on experience.

This position is a perfect fit for someone with prior professional work experience who is comfortable being outdoors and ready to try something new for 6 weeks.
