BMT Canada is recruiting for a Senior Engineer, who has knowledge and experience covering the full submarine lifecycle, to join our experienced team. 
 
In this role you will support the International Submarine Program Manager to manage activities, delivery projects and provide technical knowledge within the scope of their program. 
 
This role includes recurring long-term deployments (at least 6 months at a time) at one of our overseas client sites, providing technical leadership and oversight to a team of experienced engineers and technologists. Deployments may include the summer and Christmas school holidays.
Responsibilities and tasks include:
Program delivery 
  • Develop work schedules. 
  • Identify technical and program risks. 
  • Participate in multi-disciplinary project teams in support of client taskings. 
Client engagement and communication 
  • Review, prepare, and provide briefs at all levels (internal to BMT and to the client). 
  • Deliver presentations to stakeholders. 
  • Proactively interact with clients, develop a thorough understanding of their needs, and work to exceed expectations. 
Technical assurance and quality 
  • Provide engineering design and construction advice and consultancy. 
  • Ensure all work is undertaken in accordance with the project statement of work and checked in accordance with the relevant project and/or BMT Quality Procedure. 
  • Utilize knowledge of domain-specific standards. 
  • Provide Technical Assurance (TA) of deliverables or provide guidance and advice to others completing TA activities. 
Team leadership 
  • Contribute to the objectives and direction of the International Submarine program, and positively and actively support management decisions. 
  • Share information freely and mutually support other BMT staff to optimize the overall success of BMT Canada. 
  • Contribute to a culture of operational and technical excellence. 
  • Motivate staff and create an environment where they can ask questions and voice concerns. 
While not on deployment you will be required to execute work in support of other client taskings.  
Essential: 
  • Degree in a Marine Engineering related discipline e.g. Electrical, Mechanical, Naval Architecture, Systems Engineering. 
  • Eligible for a Canadian security clearance. 
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in a marine engineering environment. 
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a submarine engineering environment. 
  • Experience within complex maritime design programs. 
  • Experience in systems integration, ship construction and/or repair. 
  • Experience leading teams within a maritime program. 
  • An understanding of standards for government and commercial vessels. 
  • Experience in the Defence industry, preferably in shipbuilding or ship repair. 
  • Ability to manage and lead peers without direct authority. 
  • Ability to influence and earn the respect of clients. 
  • Proficient user of Microsoft 365 applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Teams, Planner and To Do). 
 
Desirable: 
  • Provincial license for practicing as a Professional Engineer.
