Position Summary
The Engineering Manager is responsible for supporting and overseeing the daily maintenance operations of the hotel, ensuring the property remains safe, functional, visually appealing, and aligned with hotel and brand standards. This role assists the Chief Engineer in managing work orders, preventive maintenance programs, projects, vendor coordination, pool maintenance, and the day-to-day leadership of the Engineering Curators.
The Engineering Manager partners closely with Housekeeping, Front Office, Operations, and hotel leadership to prioritize maintenance needs, resolve guest concerns, and support a positive guest and Curator experience.
Responsibilities
Oversee daily maintenance activities and work orders throughout guest rooms, public areas, back-of-house areas, mechanical spaces, equipment, exterior areas, and hotel grounds. Support and lead projects assigned by hotel leadership.
Assign preventive maintenance tasks for rooms, mechanical systems, equipment, and building areas to Engineering Curators.
Conduct inspections to ensure preventive maintenance is completed accurately, timely, and in accordance with hotel and brand standards.
Supervise, train, coach, and mentor Engineering Curators to support performance, accountability, and team development.
Communicate performance concerns, training needs, or staffing concerns to the Chief Engineer and/or hotel leadership.
Ensure accurate records of repairs, inspections, preventive maintenance, logs, and completed work orders are maintained.
Manage and coordinate vendor relationships for specialized repairs, inspections, service contracts, and property projects.
Maintain the hotel pool and related equipment, including daily cleaning, proper chemical balance, filter cleaning, maintenance request forms, and required record logs.
Work closely with Housekeeping, Front Desk, and Operations to prioritize guest-impacting maintenance needs.
Respond promptly and professionally to guest questions, concerns, complaints, and maintenance requests to ensure strong guest satisfaction.
Communicate effectively with hotel leadership regarding project status, property risks, repair needs, vendor updates, and recommendations.
Assist the Chief Engineer with schedule creation, payroll review, supply ordering, inventory, and department organization as needed.
Remain calm, alert, and professional during emergency situations, heavy hotel activity, guest concerns, or urgent property needs.
Support emergency response procedures, including fire, flood, power outage, safety concerns, and other property-related incidents.
Safely operate tools, equipment, and machinery required for maintenance work.
Maintain compliance with company standards, safety procedures, OSHA guidelines, hotel policies, and applicable laws.
Follow attendance expectations and be available to work a flexible schedule, including days, evenings, nights, overnights, weekends, holidays, and emergency calls as business needs require.
Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Required Skills and Abilities
Strong knowledge of hotel maintenance operations, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, painting, carpentry, and general building systems.
Prior experience in hotel, hospitality, or commercial facility maintenance required.
Prior leadership, supervisory, or team lead experience preferred.
Certified Pool Operator certification preferred, or ability to obtain certification as required.
Ability to troubleshoot and resolve maintenance issues under pressure.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to partner effectively with hotel leadership, vendors, Curators, and guests.
Positive attitude with a team-focused mentality.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize work orders, projects, and guest needs.
Ability to maintain accurate logs, records, and documentation.
Ability to handle guest concerns in a professional, tactful, and service-focused manner.
Ability to observe and detect signs of emergency situations and respond calmly and appropriately.
Ability to work independently while also supporting a collaborative team environment.
Physical Demands
Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, reach, climb, crawl, and work in confined spaces for extended periods of time.
Ability to climb ladders and stairs as needed.
Ability to routinely lift, push, pull, and carry up to 75 pounds.
Ability to safely operate maintenance tools, equipment, and machinery.
Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying temperatures and weather conditions.

Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Prior hotel maintenance or commercial building maintenance experience required.
Prior supervisory or leadership experience preferred.
Certified Pool Operator certification preferred, or ability to obtain.
Flexible schedule availability required, including weekends, holidays, nights, overnights, and emergency calls as needed
