CAREER OPPORTUNITY
The Engineering Manager leads the day-to-day activities of the Stevenson Mill Engineering Department, where safety performance and environmental excellence are foundational expectations. This role is responsible for managing internal engineering resources and coordinating outside engineering support as needed to successfully deliver mill objectives.
The Engineering Manager oversees the mill capital portfolio, partnering with Corporate Engineering, Procurement, Finance, and Legal on larger projects. Success in this role requires timely execution of projects, effective cost management, and accurate reporting of project results. This position reports to the Maintenance and Engineering Manager.
HOW YOU WILL IMPACT SMURFIT WESTROCK
  • Champion a culture of safety and environmental compliance.
  • Ensure all projects comply with applicable regulatory and industry standards (OSHA, NFPA, IEEE, building codes, etc).
  • Execute projects in accordance with corporate engineering standards and reporting requirements.
  • Manage the mill capital budget and front-end loading activities, including idea generation, project scoping, cost estimating, and approval development.
  • Maintain and update the mill's strategic capital plan to support long-term business objectives.
  • Provide leadership and direction to project engineers, project managers, and external engineering resources.
  • Serve as a technical resource to Operations and Maintenance organizations.
  • Support operational improvement initiatives by coordinating internal and external technical resources.
  • Provide technical leadership throughout the project lifecycle, including design, procurement, construction, startup, commissioning, and project closeout.
  • Ensure projects deliver intended safety, reliability, quality, environmental, and financial results.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and drive sustainable solutions to recurring problems.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related technical discipline.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience within the pulp and paper industry.
  • Demonstrated experience leading technical and professional employees.
  • Experience managing capital projects and cross-functional project teams.
  • Working knowledge of pulp, paper, utilities, and power generation processes.
  • Experience supporting projects outside of primary engineering discipline.
  • Knowledge of sustainability and environmental compliance requirements.
  • Preferred: Microsoft Office Suite, JD Edwards, PI ProcessBook / PI Vision, Process control and data systems, Talent management systems
