Job description

POSITION OVERVIEW
The Environmental Department at Talen Montana LLC is responsible for supporting the Colstrip Generating Station through ensuring continued environmental compliance. This is accomplished through air compliance and testing, managing and maintaining the plant emissions systems and permits, water quality and quantity management and monitoring, constructing and maintaining reclamation and remediation obligations, and other related duties/responsibilities as assigned.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Tasks and responsibilities using the latest drone technology and survey equipment, using data processing, survey, and engineering software to assist with volumetric calculations, ensuring construction management and design compliance through monitoring and observation, learning and assisting with required air quality testing procedures and equipment, and assisting with water management through surveying and sampling procedures.
  • Driving initiatives and functional priorities that deliver measurable, real-world results.
  • Collaborating across teams to improve how we work and strengthen business outcomes.
  • Owning and enhancing processes that support a safer, smarter, and more sustainable energy future.
  • Leveraging data, insights, and professional judgment to inform strategic decisions.
  • Supporting and developing others while fostering a collaborative, forward-thinking team culture.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's or associate degree in civil or environmental engineering technology, or very closely related equivalent experience and/or education.
  • Experience or equivalent education in surveying, drone surveying, construction management, environmental science
  • Strong knowledge of surveying and engineering principles, surveying technology and operation, civil engineering software, state and federal environmental regulations, normally gained through experience or equivalent education.
  • Demonstrated ability to: communicate effectively and actively, manage time wisely, self-organize, manage multiple projects and assist others in solving problems.
  • Proficient in MS Office products, AutoCAD, Carlson Software or AutoCAD Civil 3D engineering software, drone photogrammetry processing software, GPS based survey equipment.
  • Able to meet requirements for power plant pre-employment processes, thorough background checks, drug screening and physical requirements.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Advanced certification (e.g., PMP, PE, Six Sigma).
  • Experience in energy generation, civil or environmental engineering, air and water quality permitting, management and testing, construction management, surveying.
  • Familiarity with [Asset Suite, Workday, scheduling software such as Primavera or MS Project.
  • Prior experience working in a fast-paced, regulated, or matrixed environment
