Job description

About Voxel
Voxel Innovations is a small, mission-driven advanced manufacturing company solving difficult real-world engineering problems. We use Electrochemical Machining (ECM) to precisely shape specialty metal alloys for aerospace, energy, industrial, semiconductor, and medical customers.
Our team owns the full technology lifecycle under one roof: chemistry, machine design, tooling, process development, production, inspection, and continuous improvement. We build specialized manufacturing technology because the equipment and processes we need often do not exist off the shelf.
We are a small, growing company with high ownership, solving deep technical problems with real-world impact. We think like engineers, chase root causes, and move quickly from R&D into real production.
The Role
Voxel is looking for a Precision Mechanical Design Engineer to help us design the next generation of machines, fixtures, tooling, and production systems used in our advanced manufacturing processes.
This role is for someone who enjoys complex mechanical problems and can design systems that achieve tight tolerances, high repeatability, and reliable performance. You will work on machine structures, motion systems, tooling, fixtures, fluid-handling equipment, sheet-metal components, and precision assemblies where small errors can have large consequences.
Voxel's machines combine mechanics, electrochemistry, electrical systems, fluid flow, heat transfer, controls, and manufacturing process knowledge. You do not need to be an expert in every discipline, but you must be able to understand how these areas affect the mechanical design and work with others to create solutions that perform in the real world.
This role matters because Voxel is building specialized manufacturing equipment that does not exist off the shelf. These unique machines are required to manufacture leading-edge components in critical industries.
About You
You are an engineer who wants to understand why a system works, why it fails, and how to make it better.
You are comfortable working on problems where mechanics, controls, chemistry, heat, fluid flow, manufacturing, and measurement all interact. You do not hide behind narrow job boundaries. You ask good questions, use facts over opinions, and care about whether the machine actually performs.
You are detail-oriented, but you do not get stuck in the details. You know when precision matters, when a design needs deeper analysis, and when the right answer is to make a practical decision and keep the project moving.
You are excited by the challenge of building equipment with accuracy and repeatability that Voxel does not yet have today. You take pride in designing practical systems that can be built, tested, improved, and scaled.
You align with Voxel’s Core Values: Expect Excellence, Do Right By Others, Always Getting Better, What Would Happen If…

Job Description

  • Design machines, fixtures, tooling, and mechanical systems that meet demanding accuracy, repeatability, and performance requirements.
  • Develop mechanical concepts from rough requirements through detailed design, review, release, build support, testing, and improvement.
  • Own meaningful portions of a design from concept through CAD, drawings, BOMs, vendor coordination, procurement support, troubleshooting, and iteration.
  • Analyze designs for stiffness, strength, thermal effects, vibration, tolerance stack-up, alignment, serviceability, and manufacturability.
  • Select and integrate motion components, bearings, structures, actuators, sensors, tooling, and precision assembly features.
  • Design sheet-metal parts, machined components, weldments, brackets, enclosures, fixtures, and assemblies as needed.
  • Design in CAD and work with CAD designers to create detailed 3D models, drawings, BOMs, and released design packages.
  • Participate in design reviews and use engineering judgment to identify risks, tradeoffs, and better solutions.
  • Collaborate with process engineers, electrical engineers, controls engineers, machinists, technicians, and vendors.
  • Support machine assembly, commissioning, troubleshooting, and testing when engineering involvement is needed.
  • Improve Voxel's machine design standards, design calculations, error-budgeting methods, and engineering workflows.
  • Help make each generation of Voxel machines more accurate, repeatable, reliable, manufacturable, and cost-effective.
Qualifications
  • 4+ years of professional mechanical design experience with machines, fixtures, tooling, automation equipment, precision mechanisms, production equipment, or complex mechanical assemblies.
  • Demonstrated ability to design real mechanical systems, not just individual parts.
  • Ability to design for tight tolerances, precision alignment, repeatability, stiffness, thermal stability, and practical manufacturability, including single-digit micron-level precision where required.
  • Experience creating or reviewing detailed mechanical designs, drawings, BOMs, and released design packages.
  • Working knowledge of motion components such as linear guides, bearings, actuators, motors, encoders, sensors, and mechanical drive systems.
  • Ability to create and review engineering calculations, tolerance stack-ups, and design trade studies.
  • Practical understanding of CNC machining, fabrication, assembly, inspection, and design-for-manufacturing.
  • Strong problem-solving ability, attention to detail, and willingness to work through ambiguity.
  • Engineering degree or equivalent demonstrated technical capability required.
  • Experience is valued, but intelligence, ownership, curiosity, and ability to learn are critical.
  • MANDATORY REQUIREMENT: Due to U.S. government contract requirements, all employees must be either a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident with a valid I-551 card (green card). Work Visas are not acceptable. Employment eligibility will be verified as part of the hiring process.
  • Submittal of a cover letter describing why you are interested in working at Voxel and our mission.
  • A portfolio or project examples are optional but valued, including photos, CAD screenshots, drawings, test results, or project summaries without confidential details.
Why Join Voxel?
We invest in our people. As a new hire, you will work closely with our team to master Voxel’s proprietary electrochemical manufacturing processes. We value curiosity and technical aptitude; we provide the hands-on environment and mentorship necessary to build expertise in advanced manufacturing systems that aren't found anywhere else.
  • Real Impact: You are building tangible products for the aerospace, medical, and energy industries. You see the direct result of your work.
  • Innovation-Driven Culture: We align with our core values: Expect Excellence, Do Right By Others, Always Getting Better, and What Would Happen If…
  • Comprehensive Support: We offer competitive benefits including health, dental, vision, retirement, and paid time off to ensure you and your family are supported.
