Job description

AI-focused Senior Engineering Manager (path to Head of Engineering)

The Tight Embedded Accounting HQ is in Washington, DC, in the renowned Dupont Circle neighborhood, directly across the street from the Dupont Circle Metro Station. We are in our high-energy office 5 days a week, and we're looking to bring on an A+ Engineering leader who embraces the opportunity to collaborate with high-trajectory, AI-native teammates in our HQ. Tight's product is growing at a rapid pace, with a recently revamped (and debt-free) architecture focused on LLM use cases for the future of Agentic Accounting. We're looking for a leader who not only embraces the growth but also is excited by the amount of change that comes with this growth. Many financial technology (FinTech) platforms are building products that leverage Tight's Embedded Accounting MCP Server, UIs, APIs and SDKs; over 1.3M users are leveraging said products. Tight's team aids these FinTechs in how to leverage its MCP Tools, Embedded UI, APIs and SDKs to build these products. Tight's Customer Partnerships team interfaces directly with the FinTech's product/engineering teams, soliciting and obtaining critical product feedback that drives the direction of Tight's products.

As a product-led organization, 80% of Tight's team is composed of engineers, with a rich and ever-evolving AI toolkit. Engineering leaders (CTO, Head of API, Head of Embedded UI, and Senior Engineers), many of whom began their careers at Tight as individual contributors, have historically managed engineering talent. Now, Tight is looking to bring on a talented and experienced Engineering Manager, which will encapsulate the following areas:

  1. Execution
    • Maintaining timeline
    • Leading team to execute against timeline
    • Hustling to notice and alleviate bottlenecks
  2. Engineering/process efficiency
    • Iterating the way our humans and AI agents interact, as the team continues to scale
  3. Talent growth
    • Monthly check-in with each direct report
    • Active coaching to level up entry-level developers into senior-level talent

We're looking for an enthusiastic, quick, and passionate leader who is an expert at:

  • Coordinating with Product to prioritize, break down, and delegate work
  • Owning engineering as a player-coach
  • Eventually building out an Engineering Management team

The following qualifications would help build confidence in the ability to grow into the above responsibilities:

  • 3 to 10 years of experience managing engineers
  • Heavy/growing AI curiosity
  • Engineering background (academic and professional)
  • Experience managing high-growth team members in addition to liaising with leaders
  • Strong writing skills

Importantly, at Tight, we are looking to utilize your existing skills to improve our Engineering operation, and then the sky's the limit responsibility/growth-wise based on where your skill development and interests lead.
