Ready to Put Your Engineering Brain to Work-For Real? What if your internship didn't stop at spreadsheets or shadowing-but put you right in the action, solving real-world engineering problems alongside experts who quite literally write the book on failure? At Stress Engineering Services (SES), we do engineering at the edge-where performance, safety, and innovation intersect. Since 1972, SES has been a trusted partner to companies across aerospace, energy, industrial, consumer products, and more. Over 80% of our work comes from repeat clients and referrals, because when things can't afford to fail, they call us.
If you're a Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering student who wants hands-on experience, technical depth, and exposure to projects that actually matter-this internship is for you.
About the InternshipAs a Mechanical / Structural Engineering Intern, you'll work directly with experienced project managers and engineers on active client projects. You won't just observe-you'll contribute.
You'll be involved in:
- Structural and mechanical analysis
- Failure investigations and root-cause analysis
- Test method development and validation
- Design and process optimization
- Product development support
This internship supports SES's Engineering Mechanics and Materials practices and gives you real exposure to how advanced engineering theory is applied in the real world.
What You'll DoA typical day might include:
- Supporting engineers with finite element analysis (FEA) using Abaqus
- Assisting with laboratory and experimental testing
- Helping develop and review technical calculations and reports
- Collaborating in small, highly technical project teams
- Learning when to run independently-and when to lean on expert guidance
We value quality, accuracy, and curiosity. You'll be trusted to take ownership of your work, while never being left without support.
What We're Looking ForWe're excited to meet students who are:

- Strong in engineering fundamentals and first-principles mechanics
- Familiar with or eager to learn Abaqus (FEA)
- Comfortable with CAD tools
- Interested in or experienced with hands-on lab/testing environments
- Curious, detail-oriented, and driven to produce high-quality work

At SES, interns: - Work on real projects with real impact
- Learn from top technical talent across multiple industries
- Gain experience that directly translates to full-time engineering roles
- Join a culture built on integrity, collaboration, and technical excellence
Many of our full-time engineers started right where you are now.
If you're ready to challenge yourself, build real engineering skills, and see how theory becomes reality-we'd love to meet you.
