Job Description

Hanson Professional Services Inc. is seeking a Construction Engineering Technician with civil construction experience to perform construction observation in the IL area.

Position Profile

This position will be responsible for observation and documentation of paving, drainage, utility, lighting, structural, and site development during construction at airports, as well as other transportation-related projects.

A Day in the Life of a Construction Engineering Technician at Hanson

Here's a snapshot of what you would do in this role:

  • Represent owner in monitoring construction activities for compliance with plans and specifications;

  • Perform and/or oversee onsite construction materials testing;

  • Coordinate and communicate field construction activities with contractor and designers.

  • Assist engineers/designers with developing plans and specifications, including cost estimates, quantities and constructability reviews.

What We're Looking For

We feel the following qualifications would set you up for success in this role:

Education/Experience:

  • High School Diploma/equivalent

  • A minimum of 3 years of construction observation, construction materials testing, related education/formal training

  • Current driver's license

Preferred Qualifications

In addition to the qualifications above the following will result in a more competitive candidate:

  • Experience working on airport and other civil construction projects

  • Illinois Department of Transportation project experience and familiarity with the respective agency documentation and material testing certifications; and

  • Ability to provide constructability reviews, quantity takeoffs, shop drawing reviews, and CADD drafting support for design projects

  • General Contractor License a plus

  • IDOT Construction Technician certifications:

    • IDOT Documentation of Contract Quantities and experience with IDOT's Construction and Materials Management System (CMMS) or obtain certification within 5 months

    • IDOT QMTP 3-day Aggregate, PCC Level I and II, HMA Level I and II, or ability to attain within 5 months

    • Experience with CADD (MicroStation or Civil 3D)

Working at Hanson:

Must be available to travel for out-of-town assignments, concentrated in the IL area

Candidates must be able to work as a team member as well as independently, have the desire to learn new skills, be self-motivated, and possess good interpersonal communication skills.

This position has a variable project work schedule as this work is dependent upon construction schedules. Hours vary based on project demands including potential required overtime.

This is a non-exempt position and is eligible for overtime. The hourly rate for this position is between $31.00 - $42.00 per hour based on experience, education, and/or certifications.
