The Opportunity: 

Ready to launch your engineering career while contributing to the safe and reliable operation of critical energy infrastructure? Join our Asset Integrity team and gain hands-on experience supporting the systems and equipment that keep our operations running safely and efficiently.

Asset Integrity Engineers utilize a variety of inspection, repair, risk assessment, and corrosion management technologies to ensure the effectiveness of asset integrity programs across our Oil Sands, Thermal, and Conventional operations. These programs support a diverse range of assets, including pressure equipment, piping systems, storage tanks, structural components, and an extensive network of pipelines throughout Western Canada.

As an Asset Integrity Engineering Student, you will work alongside a diverse group of stakeholders, including Field Integrity, Production Engineering, Process Engineering, Static & Rotating Equipment Engineering, Operations, Maintenance, and Projects teams. Through this collaboration, you will gain insight into the technical, operational, and regulatory requirements that support the safe and reliable performance of critical assets.

This role offers the opportunity to develop practical experience with engineering software and tools, industry codes and standards, risk-based decision-making processes, and asset integrity management practices. You will contribute to meaningful projects, enhance your technical knowledge, and build a strong understanding of how engineering, operations, and maintenance teams work together to support safe, reliable, and efficient operations.

Opportunities are available in both Calgary and at our Oil Sands operations. Calgary-based students will support Conventional and Thermal Asset Integrity teams while gaining field exposure through site visits. Students located at our Oil Sands sites will work directly within operations, gaining valuable hands-on experience in a dynamic and fast-paced operating environment. 

This is an exciting opportunity to apply your technical knowledge, develop industry experience, and work alongside experienced engineers while making a meaningful contribution to the reliability and safety of Canadian Natural's assets.

Key Accountabilities: 

  • Assist with the writing of engineering assessments for new and existing systems
  • Develop corrosion mitigation and inspection strategies for pipelines, plant equipment and piping systems
  • Review and track Key Performance Indicators to ensure asset integrity targets are being monitored and maintained
  • Provide materials engineering support to ongoing operation, maintenance and new projects
  • Participate in metallurgical failure analysis of failed or damaged components
  • Perform analysis of inspection and failure data and provide engineering recommendations for ongoing repair and mitigation strategies 

What You Bring to The Role:

  • Currently enrolled in bachelor's degree program in Materials Engineering preferred, Mechanical Engineering acceptable
  • Previous integrity engineering related experience, field experience is considered an asset
  • Positive attitude and eagerness to learn.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel; experience with Power BI, Spotfire, SQL, or Python is considered an asset.
  • Required to be physically and mentally fit for work
  • Responsible attitude towards safety, demonstrate leadership and enjoy problem solving
  • Possess a valid Class 5 Alberta driver's license or equivalent out of province license
  • A pre-employment drug screening test must be successfully completed
