Position Overview

Kiewit is expanding its design team specializing in Marine & Coastal Resiliency (MCR) and is seeking top performing contributors to support and sustain its growth. As such, we are currently looking for a Senior Marine Structural Engineer specializing in marine infrastructure projects. This role presents a unique opportunity to act as an internal engineer at Kiewit, with access to Kiewit's resources and experience to ensure that design work is carried out with the best constructability guidelines in the market.

The Senior Marine Structural Engineer will work closely with an interdisciplinary team that includes coastal, civil and geotechnical engineers, as well as estimators, schedulers and other construction professionals to provide various services to clients for the development of MCR projects.

The Senior Marine Structural Engineer will be responsible to lead out preliminary and detailed structural design efforts on marine infrastructure projects, supporting engineering integration, managing design, providing technical mentorship to team members, and contributing to construction estimating, scheduling, and planning efforts. Additionally, they will be responsible for connecting with the Operating Districts, developing a strong trusting relationship with the main stakeholders in districts, understanding their engineering support needs in the Marine, Ports, Maritime, and Coastal space. The successful candidate will contribute with their energy, enthusiasm, collaborative approach, and leadership to achieve the quality and safety objectives of the projects to which they are assigned.

This position will be based out of our Houston, TX office.

Responsibilities
  • Act as a Senior Marine Structural Engineer as part of the Marine & Coastal Resiliency design team on pursuits and projects, including:
  • Perform, review, and oversee structural analysis and design for marine structures,
  • Develop detailed construction drawings and specifications,
  • Prepare technical reports and documentation,
  • Ensure accuracy of design deliverables (reports, drawings & specifications, etc.),
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure project success,
  • Conduct site inspections and provide technical support during construction,
  • Help identify design risks and assist with risk mitigation planning,
  • Unique to the Kiewit model: act as a facilitator of collaboration with construction teams during the design phase. Take advantage of access to the construction team to achieve a design that is truly optimal for construction.
  • Perform project coordination and management of selected engineering projects.
  • Mentor and lead engineers in their technical development.
  • Contribute to MCR technical proposals.
  • Support the development of the MCR engineering team by building internal tools and processes.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in civil/Structural Engineering or equivalent. A master's degree is an asset.
  • 12+ years' experience in structural engineering of marine structures such as; Piers, floating Docks, sea walls, wharfs and mooring dolphins
  • Experienced in performing a berthing & mooring analysis and design of marine fenders.
  • Familiar with marine terminals operations
  • Experience with project delivery models that include working directly with the contractor is an asset (one or several of Early Contractor Involvement, Design-Build, Progressive Design-Build, etc.).
  • Professional Engineer P.E. license required.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving and organizational skills.
  • Proficient in English, proficiency in Spanish or French is an asset
  • Efficiency, autonomy, initiative, and ability to prioritize.
