CMM Inspector

Company: Hitachi Particle Engineering and Services, Inc.

Location: Pleasanton, CA

Status: 3-month contract (eligible for extension)

The Company

Hitachi Particle Engineering and Services, Inc. (HPES) provides service and maintenance operations to Particle Therapy systems. Accsys Technologies, a division of HPES designs and manufactures ion RF LINAC systems (radio frequency linear accelerator), which are used in Particle Beam Therapy systems and R&D applications. Hitachi Particle Engineering and Services, Inc. is a Hitachi Group Company.

Summary

The CMM (Coordinate Measurement Machine) Operator is a quality-driven professional responsible for performing dimensional inspections of high-precision components and manufacturing materials. This role ensures products meet engineering specifications, quality standards, and customer requirements through accurate measurement and inspection.

Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Operate manual CMM machinery to perform in-process, first-article, and final dimensional inspections.

  • Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) symbols.

  • Collaborate with engineering to identify critical inspection dimensions

  • Determine appropriate measuring instruments required based on drawings

  • Accurately record inspection data including calibrated instruments used

  • Document acceptance or rejection of material

  • Collaborate with engineering and/or manufacturing to troubleshoot discrepancies

  • Appropriately label and segregate materials that do not meet specification

  • Assist with non-CMM related inspections as needed

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical certifications or associate degrees in engineering or manufacturing disciplines are preferred.

  • 5+ years of precision inspection experience using CMMs in quality-controlled environment.

  • Understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (ASME Y14.5) to interpret complex engineering intents

  • Ensure accurate measurements using GD&T principles.

  • Experience with CMM software (CMM Manager preferred) and measurement hand tools (calipers, micrometers, etc.)

  • Knowledge of quality assurance principles related to dimensional inspection

  • Knowledge of ANSI sampling standards

  • Excellent written, verbal and communication skills

  • Proficient math skills

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite

Working Conditions

General manufacturing/inspection environment. Potential for exposure to radiation. Employees frequently walk, stand and sit for computer use; may sit for extended periods of time.
