Job description

About Hazen and Sawyer

Founded in 1951 by the son of Allen Hazen (developer of the Hazen-Williams equation), Hazen and Sawyer is an employee-owned firm dedicated exclusively to water. With over 2,000 employees across 70+ offices in the United States, Latin America, Canada, and the UK, we specialize in the planning, design, and construction oversight of environmental infrastructure for water, wastewater, and stormwater management. Our culture emphasizes creativity, collaboration, and professional growth, supported by a flexible hybrid work schedule.

Position Overview

We are seeking a Senior Hydrogeologist to join our Florida team. This leadership role is ideal for an experienced geologist, hydrogeologist, or groundwater-focused engineer with a strong background in water infrastructure projects. You will lead complex hydrogeologic investigations, manage multidisciplinary teams, and contribute to strategic planning and execution of projects related to underground injection control (UIC), wellfield development, groundwater resource management, aquifer protection, and integration with broader water/wastewater infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead hydrogeologic investigations, including data collection, analysis, interpretation, and presentation.
  • Manage planning, design, permitting, testing and construction of groundwater-related infrastructure, including UIC wells, monitoring wells, and wellfields.
  • Oversee development of technical reports and evaluations using GIS and groundwater modeling.
  • Provide technical leadership in well construction, testing, modification, and rehabilitation.
  • Coordinate with internal technical specialists and discipline design professionals across water and wastewater sectors.
  • Collaborate with clients, regulatory agencies, and interdisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality project outcomes.
  • Mentor junior staff and foster technical development within the hydrogeology group.
  • Support proposal development, client presentations, and strategic business development.
  • Conduct fieldwork and site visits throughout Florida, from planning through construction.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Geological Sciences, Hydrogeology, or Environmental/Civil Engineering.
  • Professional Geologist (PG) or Professional Engineer (PE) license in Florida.
  • 10-20 years of experience in hydrogeology, groundwater infrastructure, or water/wastewater project engineering.
  • Proven ability to manage complex, multi-year projects with interdisciplinary teams.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and project management skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a personal vehicle for work-related travel.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree (Master’s or Doctorate) in Civil/Environmental Engineering or Hydrogeology.
  • Experience with Florida’s regulatory framework for groundwater and UIC systems.
  • Familiarity with water/wastewater treatment and conveyance systems.
  • Strong data analysis and visualization capabilities.
  • Experience in client engagement and proposal development.

What We Offer

  • Competitive compensation based on experience, education, and location.
  • Comprehensive health benefits (medical, dental, vision, and prescription plans).
  • Pre-tax flexible spending plans for medical, dependent care, and transportation.
  • Short and long-term disability, and employer-paid life insurance.
  • Paid holidays, floating holidays, and paid time off (PTO).
  • Employer-contributed 401(k) plan and financial planning support.
  • Professional development opportunities, including tuition reimbursement, in-house training, and incentives for licensure and professional memberships.
