Our FoundationSharyland Water Supply Corporation was established in May of 1968 for the purpose of providing safe, affordable drinking water to the rural communities in and around Mission, McAllen, and Edinburg. We continue to strive in that endeavor.Sharyland Water Supply Corporation was created by a group of determined, community-minded men in the 1960's. With the help of Farmers Home Administration, a loan was acquired and construction began to build a rural water system. Initially, 700 property owners committed to take water service once construction was complete. Today, more than 50 years later, there are over 19,000 water connections on the system.The Corporation has approximately 100 square miles of Certified Area, 800 miles of water lines, three water plants, four elevated storage tanks and plans for additional water system improvements in the works.The Corporation has over 100 employees and a 7 person Board of Directors, all of whom are dedicated to the job required to ensure that Sharyland Water Supply Corporation continues to be the best it can be.Scope of the RoleAs Assistant General Manager, you provide senior-level ownership across Sharyland Water Supply Corporation’s operational performance and long-range infrastructure execution, ensuring safe, reliable service and regulatory alignment. Reporting to the General Manager, you help translate strategy into measurable outcomes and may serve as Acting General Manager as needed.Key responsibilities include:- Oversee utility operations and capital improvement delivery across treatment, transmission, distribution, storage, pumping, and construction- Support asset management, budgeting inputs, project prioritization, and performance reporting for leadership and Board materials- Drive cross-functional coordination with staff, consultants, contractors, developers, regulators, and community stakeholders- Lead through sound judgment, accountability, integrity, and a strong safety mindsetRequired qualifications/skills:- 5–10+ years in water/utility operations, capital programs, or engineering/infra leadership- Strategic analysis, executive-level communication, negotiation, and disciplined executionApply to help lead and shape the Corporation’s next phase of infrastructure and service excellence.A Typical DayYour day starts onsite in Alton with a quick scan of operational status and priority items that could affect continuity of service. You align with the General Manager on near-term decisions, then move into working sessions where engineering updates, capital schedules, and risk items are translated into clear next steps. Midday may include reviewing draft Board packets, refining recommendations, or joining meetings with developers, contractors, or regulators to remove roadblocks. As issues arise—weather events, infrastructure interruptions, or shifting deadlines—you recalibrate resources and communications quickly.
