Join a Growing Team in the Construction & Engineering Industry

Catawba Valley Engineering & Testing is looking for motivated, detail-oriented individual to join our team as an Engineering Field Technician. This is an excellent opportunity for anyone interested in construction, engineering, quality assurance, or gaining hands-on experience with real-world, high-impact projects across the region.
What You’ll Do

As an Engineering Field Technician, you will play a key role in ensuring construction quality and compliance on active job sites. Your responsibilities will include:
  • Performing field testing, sampling, observations, and inspections of construction materials
  • Conducting Construction Materials Testing (CMT) on concrete, soils, masonry, asphalt, aggregate, structural steel, fireproofing, and more
  • Completing mathematical calculations, test data reduction, and preparing accurate field and laboratory documentation
  • Communicating daily with contractors, project managers, engineers, and CVET staff
  • Representing CVET professionally while supporting safe, high-quality construction practices
What We’re Looking For

We want candidates who are reliable, safety-minded, and ready to work outdoors in a fast-paced environment. Qualified applicants should have:
  • A high school diploma or GED (BSCE or EI candidates are also encouraged to apply)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to perform basic math and follow detailed testing procedures
  • A willingness to work in varying weather conditions
  • Physical ability to lift up to 100 lbs (mostly team lifts due to weight/shape)
  • Availability for variable hours and overtime when needed
  • Age 21+ with a clean driving record (required to operate a company vehicle)
Prior CMT/Special Inspections experience or certifications are a plus.
