Job description

Reports to: Engineering Manager
Exempt: No
Location: San Diego, CA 92121
A detail-oriented product engineer to support the drawing management, procedural documentation, and CNC manufacturing efficiency needs of the Reotemp Fabrication team. This role is responsible for maintaining accurate engineering drawings, supporting the release of shop floor work orders, and working closely with machinists to optimize tooling, G-code, and CNC processes for maximum efficiency and repeatability.
Company Information:
REOTEMP Instrument Corp is a world class manufacturer of thermometers, pressure gauges, and other temperature and pressure measurement devices. We build a unique type of product that few people have any experience with, so we seek team members who have a passion for learning. The person in this position will engage regularly with engineering, production, and quality teams and should be enthusiastic about hands-on problem solving in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
Drawing Creation & Management
  • Create, revise, and maintain engineering drawings for thermowells, flushing rings, valves, and other Fab products using CAD software (Inventor, AutoCAD).
  • Manage drawing revision control, ensuring the correct version is released to the shop floor and archived properly.
  • Support engineering documentation control practices, including drawing numbering conventions, redlines, and change logs.
  • Review and update drawings based on manufacturability feedback from machinists and production staff.

Shop Floor Order Support
  • Support development and refinement of G-code programs to improve cycle time, tool life, and part quality.
  • Work with machinists to identify tooling improvements, fixture adjustments, and setup efficiencies across CNC equipment.
  • Assist in troubleshooting CNC program issues and documenting proven setups for repeatability.
  • Support validation of new or revised CNC programs prior to production release.

Procedures & Documentation Support
  • Assist in developing and updating work instructions, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and quality documentation.
  • Support maintenance of technical bulletins, product briefs, and IOM manual content as directed by the Engineering Manager.
  • Help ensure documentation aligns with applicable industry standards (ASME, ANSI, API) under senior engineering guidance.

Continuous Improvement
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to reduce cost, cycle time, and scrap.
  • Bring forward ideas for process, tooling, or documentation improvements identified through daily shop floor interaction.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to reduce cost, improve efficiency, and ensure repeatability.

General Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • 0-3 years of engineering experience; especially in a manufacturing environment.
  • Working knowledge of CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD).
  • Basic understanding of G-code and CNC machining principles.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills, particularly around document control.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with both engineering and shop floor personnel

Preferred Skills:
  • Exposure to CNC programming or CAM software (e.g., Fusion 360, GibbsCAM).
  • Familiarity with GD&T and dimensional inspection basics.
  • Experience with pressure-containing or precision-machined components.
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001 documentation practices.
