Take your first step into an exciting future career with Siemens, a global leader in power protection and automation. Join our Engineering Development Program and unlock your potential in shaping a sustainable world.
We are seeking qualified candidates for our Power Protection and Automation Engineering Development Program (PA EDP) beginning January 4th, 2027. This role is based in Wendell, NC.
Program Overview:
The Power Protection and Automation Engineering Development Program places you on the Siemens Smart Infrastructure Electrification & Automation team in a one-year development program focused on power protection and automation in electrical substations, with a structured pathway across two tracks: Protection and Automation.
Throughout the program, you'll contribute to projects that support the modernization of critical power infrastructure, including utility substations, digital substations, data centers, semiconductor and advanced manufacturing campuses, renewable energy interconnections, battery energy storage systems, and solar-integrated microgrids.
You'll make an impact by:
  • Completing two six-month technical rotations, one on Protection and one on Automation, including approximately seven weeks of technical and safety training in Wendell, NC, integrated with six hands-on field rotations (three in each area). Each rotation is approximately six weeks and supports substation projects across the U.S., along with report-outs, advanced training, and professional development activities.
  • Gaining exposure to both Protection and Automation disciplines, including systems that safeguard transformers, motors, and substations, and support RTUs, HMIs, protection relays, and communication networks within substations.
  • Designing and implementing power protection and automation solutions.
  • Supporting testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting activities.
  • Transitioning into the Solutions Engineering team at the end of the program, where participants will select a specialized focus area, continue their technical development, and support future EDP cohorts.

You'll win us over by having the following qualifications:
  • Pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, Energy Systems Engineering, or a closely related field. Candidates must graduate from an accredited institution between December 2024 and December 2026.
  • Passionate about innovation and problem-solving.
  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and leadership skills.
  • Prepared to travel extensively during the field experience portion of the program, up to 38 weeks per year, including Monday-Friday travel to customer sites across the U.S., with occasional Sunday travel required for site orientation or early Monday start times. Assignments support factory acceptance testing and field commissioning.
  • Willing to relocate to Wendell, NC. Assistance is provided to hires who must relocate more than 50 miles from their permanent address.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States on a continual and permanent basis.

You can expect to:
  • Be part of an exclusive, high-impact development program focused on deep engineering expertise.
  • Enjoy a $5,000 sign-on bonus and a $10,000 program completion bonus, with additional post-program retention incentives available based on placement into eligible engineering roles, performance, and business needs.
  • Be eligible for overtime in accordance with business needs and applicable policies, offering additional opportunities for hands-on experience.
  • Benefit from a structured PTO schedule aligned to the program's timeline, including 15 planned PTO days and 3 floating holidays.
  • Develop skills through EDP technical course content covering core protection and automation engineering, digital substation technologies, communication protocols, and grid control applications.
