Job Description
Teledyne Micropac is looking for a Design Engineering Manager leads the development of electronic products and systems for aerospace, defense, and space applications. This role is responsible for technical execution across new product introduction (NPI) and funded development programs.
The Design Engineering Manager provides hands-on technical leadership and manages a small, multidisciplinary team of engineers spanning electrical design, embedded software, and product development. This role works closely with Program Management, Operations, Quality, Mission Assurance, and other engineering functions to ensure designs meet performance, schedule, cost, quality, and reliability objectives from concept through production release.
What you'll do
The essential functions and key responsibilities for the position include, but are not limited to:
  • Own technical execution for development and NPI programs.
  • Lead and develop a multidisciplinary design team by establishing clear technical direction, engineering rigor, and accountability while fostering a collaborative and execution-focused engineering culture.
  • Support design and NPI activities for derivative products and technology insertions based on legacy product lines.
  • Apply systems-engineering discipline to requirements interpretation and risk management.
  • Serve as the technical authority for design decisions, ensuring robust margins, appropriate derating, and defensible engineering rationale.
  • Act as a hands-on technical contributor, performing or reviewing electrical schematic design, circuit simulation, worst-case analysis, and stress/derating analyses.
  • Develop and review box-level hardware designs, including interface definitions, environmental considerations, and software interactions; support mechanical integration as applicable.
  • Ensure adherence to internal product development processes and design quality standards, including preparation for and participation in PDRs and CDRs.
  • Partner with Program Management to support development schedules, technical milestones, and risk management for NPI and development programs.
  • Support Operations and Manufacturing Engineering by incorporating manufacturability, testability, and producibility considerations into designs.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Quality, and Mission Assurance to incorporate manufacturability, producibility, reliability, and compliance considerations into designs.
  • Provide technical support during prototype build, validation, and early production phases as required.

What you'll need
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with 7+ years of relevant experience, or a Master's degree with 5+ years of relevant experience - required
  • Demonstrated experience leading technical teams and mentoring engineers - required
  • Strong proficiency with schematic capture and analysis tools (e.g., OrCAD, PSpice) - required
  • Broad, practical understanding of multidisciplinary engineering impacts (electrical, software, mechanical, materials) - required
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills - required
  • Familiarity with high-reliability and military standards (e.g., MIL-PRF-19500, MIL-PRF-38534) - advantage
  • Familiarity with multidisciplinary design and reliability analyses, including thermal, structural, optical, parts stress/PMPL, and failure-mode analysis techniques (e.g., FMEA) - advantage
  • Experience supporting NPI and development programs through production transition - advantage
  • Background working with Quality, Mission Assurance, and Operations teams in regulated environments - advantage
  • U.S. citizenship or US Persons Status (i.e. U.S. permanent resident) required (we do not sponsor work-related Visa's).
